Scotland is one of the well known rugby playing nations in the world. Scotland has participated in all of the past world cup tournaments. They have also a decent world cup record. Scotland won the fourth place in 1991 rugby world cup in England. In the last world cup in 2003, they lost to the eventual runner up Australia in the quarter final stage. Scotland will be playing Pool C in Rugby world cup 2007.
In the pool Scotland has to face 1987 winner New Zealand, Portugal, Romania and Italy. Clearly, New Zealand is the most favorite team in the pool to progress to the next round. I think, Scotland should not have too much problem to qualify for the quarter final stage because they are ahead of the other three team inters of strength. However, Scotland may strong challenge from Italy in the pool. France will be the probable opponent of Scotland in the quarter final stage. Here, I am giving the full pool stage schedule of Scotland below:
Pool C
Date | Competing Teams | Venue | Referee |
9-9-2007 | Scotland vs Portugal | St-Etienne | Steve Walsh (New Zealand) |
18-9-2007 | Scotland vs Romania | Edinburgh | Nigel Owens (Wales) |
23-9-2007 | Scotland vs New Zealand | Edinburgh | Marius Jonker (South Africa) |
29-9-2007 | Scotland vs Italy | St-Etienne | Jonathan Kaplan (South Africa) |
Ahead of Rugby World Cup 2007, Scotland coach Frank Hadden has formed relatively a young team. Twenty players of the squad have not appeared in Rugby world cup. However, most capped Scottish player Scott Murray and fly half Chris Paterson will are going to play their third Rugby world cup.
