US Open 2007: Sania Mirza Progresses to the Third Round

Star Tennis player Sania Mirza has reached at the third round of US Open 2007. Sania has won her second round match against American Laura Granville. Sania Mirza won the match in two direct sets of 6-3 and 7-5. In the first set, Sania could not give any chance to Laura Granville. However, in the second set, Laura Granville could show some resistance against Sania Mirza.

NDTV reported:
Seeded 26th, Sania was made to sweat for one hour and 22 minutes and the win pits the Indian against sixth seeded Anna Chakvedatze in the third round after the Russian beat Australian Nicole Pratt 6-3, 6-4 in another second round match.
Sania and Laura exchanged two breaks in the first set before the Indian broke loose and converted her third break point to go one up in the match.
Sania began well in the second set and looked in a hurry to wrap up the match as she raced to a 4-2 lead. Just then the American threw in the spanner, winning two of the next three games to reduce the gap.

Sania Mirza has become an idol to the young Indians. Sania’s performance in international tennis has made her a celebrity in Tennis. Tennis is not so popular in cricket mad India. However, Sania Miza’s success has made the young generation interested to tennis. Sania Mirza will face sixth seed Anna Chakvetadze in third round. Now, let us see how far Sania Mirza can go in US Open 2007.
