India will face Australia in the crucial sixth ODI of India vs Australia ODI series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur. The match will take place on 14 October 2007. For India, it is a ‘do or die’ match as they have to win the two remaining matches in order to save the series. Now, Australia leads the series 3-1. So, they just need to win one of the two matches to claim the series. So, India is now under pressure.

Ahead of the India vs Australia ODI series at the home soil, it was earlier expected that India will be able to continue their Twenty20 world cup victory in the series. However, with the course of time Australia started showing their dominance over India. After losing second and third ODI matches, India came back in the series winning the fourth ODI of the series. However, India again went down in the next one as they are now on the verge of losing the series at the home soil.

In the sixth ODI match, Australia defeated India with a big margin of 9 wickets. India’s star seeded batting line up could not show any resistance against the Australian bowlers. Winning the toss, Indian captain Dhoni chose to bat first. However, his decision proved to be wrong immediately as they lost five wickets at 43 runs. Among the top order batsmen only Sachin Tendulkar scored a modest innings of 47. Irfan Pathan and Zaheer Khan also helped Indian to put on 148 in the scoreboard. India got 41 run in the last wicket. Otherwise, India innings would be more unimpressive. Among the Australia bowlers, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson were impressive. Brett Lee took two important wickets of India. Mitchell Johnson took five wickets conceding just 26 runs in his ten overs.

Chasing 148 runs should not have been hard for Australia and it was not. Australia reached at the target within 25.5 overs losing just 1 wicket. Adam Gilchrist played an attractive innings of 79 runs facing just 77 balls with seven boundaries and four over boundaries. Only Harbhajan Singh earned some respect from the Australian batsmen. Even inform bowler Irfan Pathan could not show his impressive performance in the day. However, it is also true that it is really very hard to fight back against Australia with 148 runs.

Now, having suffered a humiliating defeat to Australia, India needs to bounce back in the next ODI if they really want to save the ODI series. It would look very odd to lose the ODI series at home just after winning the Twenty20 world cup. So, for India, the upcoming sixth ODI is a big challenge and they have to do their best to save the series. At the same time, Australia will also try to clinch the ODI series winning the sixth ODI match. Fans of both teams are now eagerly waiting for the match.

It is a bit hard to predict anything beforehand as both India and Australia are two big contenders in the cricket world. Both teams have the equal possibility to win the match. However, the home crowd will be looking for something special from India and want India to keep the ODI series alive. So, I hope the cricket fans will be able to enjoy a competitive match in the coming ODI match of the series.
