Mac Software Senior Vice President Bertrand Serlet is leaving

On March 23, 2011, Apple announced that Bertrand Serlet, Senior Vice President, Mac Software, will be leaving the company. He will be succeeded by the current vice president of Mac Software engineering, Craig Federighi.

Bertrand Serlet has been working with Steve Jobs for the last 22 years. Serlet holds a Ph.D degree in computer science from the University of Orsay, France. In a statement, issued by Apple, Serlet said that he wants to focus more on science than products.

Jobs and Serlet first met after Jobs founded NeXT in 1985. Before NeXT, Serlet worked at Xerox PARC for four years. In 2003, Serlet became Senior Vice President following the appointment of Avie Tevanian, former software engineering head, as chief software technology officer.

Serlet’s successor, Craig Federighi, is also a NeXT veteran.
