Wayne Rooney: Chelsea Could Strengthen Their Title Hope

Manchester United is currently leading the Premier League point table with 54 points from 24 matches and currently holds a 5-point lead over second placed Arsenal and a 10-point lead over fourth placed Chelsea. So, it is pretty much clear that Chelsea has already fallen behind off the title race.

However, Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, who scored twice in United’s 3-1 recent victory over Aston Villa, believes that Chelsea could still make a comeback to the title race with a series of wins in the coming weeks. Here, it is noteworthy that Chelsea invested around £70 million to clinch two deadline day deals for Fernando Torres and David Luiz.

However, Rooney has also added that whether Chelsea can close the gap with Manchester United depends on the performance of the Red Devils in the coming months.

Wayne Rooney is happy after scoring a brace on Tuesday as his scoring form is not satisfactory at all this season. He has scored only 4 goals in Premier League so far which is a stark contrast with his last season’s form.

Manchester United did not have a very good start to the season, but the Red Devils have been performing on a consistent basis over the last 2 or 3 months, while Chelsea struggled a lot towards the end of the last year and Arsenal also suffered number of slip ups. So, it became easier for United to move to the top of the table.
