Robert Pires Training with Arsenal

Former France international Robert Pires is now in North London and has been training at his former club Arsenal. The 36-year-old winger is currently a free agent as his contract with Valencia expired this summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has found some good words for his former student when asked about his current condition. He revealed to the French daily Le Parisien, “He is sparkling. He’s happy on the ball and physically he is fine. He can be of service in Ligue 1 (the French top division).”

Pires has been working out with the Arsenal players for a week now and would stay on for another week to get himself fit for the next challenge. However, Wenger has not indicated any possibility of handing Pires a short-term contract as he did to Sol Campbell last January.

Robert Pires has already become an Arsenal legend for his contribution to the club’s success during his 6-year stint with the Gunners. He won 2 Premier League, 3 FA Cup and 2 Community Shield titles with Arsenal before leaving the North London side in 2006 to join Valencia. He was a key member of the invincible Arsenal squad of 2004 and part of Arsenal’s last silverware winning team that won FA Cup in 2005.
