Shashi Tharoor and Christa Giles are finally divorced

It is official now. Shashi Tharoor, the former minister of state for external affairs is a divorcee. Tharoor’s divorce with his second wife, Christa Giles, is complete now.

In the parliament record of the Thiruvananthapuram MP, Christa Giles’ name was mentioned against a column till last week to indicate Tharoor’s marital status. It now mentions him as a divorcee.

Shashi Tharoor is now preparing for his marriage with his long time friend, Sunanda Pushkar.

The marriage ceremony will take place on August 17, 2010, which is the Malayalam New Year Day. The Malayalam news papers gave out all the necessary details about the marriage ceremony of Shashi Tharoor.

According to news reports, the marriage ceremony of Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar will take place in the premises of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple has been built by the royal family of Travancore.

Shashi Tharoor first married Tilottama Mukherjee. Currently an academic in Kolkata, Tharoor and Tilottama knew each other during his school years in Kolkata. Tharoor studied at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School in Kolkata. Tharoor and Tilottama had twin sons- Ishaan and Kanishk. Both of them attended Yale University. Ishaan works for Time magazine’s international edition in Hong Kong. He wrote stories on a wide range of topics including cover stories on Nepal and the Philippines.

Kanishk works as an editor in Open Democracy in London. A fiction writer and a journalist, Kanishk was nominated for a US National Magazine Award in 2009.
