India vs Australia 1st ODI Live Updates: 25 October 2009Indian selectors have announced 15-member Indian squad for the first two games of the upcoming seven-match ODI series against Australia at home, starting 25 October 2009. There are some surprises in the squad. The only new face in the team is right arm medium pacer Sudeep Tyagi who has impressed the selectors with his performance in the Challenger Trophy. However, the surprising decision taken by the selectors is the exclusion of experienced middle order batsman Rahul Dravid who was recalled to ODI squad to bolster the middle order in Champions Trophy.
Two key batsmen: Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh- have returned after recovering their respective injuries. Experienced pacer Zaheer Khan was not available for selection as he needs more time to recover his injury. All rounder Yusuf Pathan and pacer RP Singh have lost their places in the squad for their poor form. Pathan could reach two figures only twice in the last 11 innings and bowled only 111.2 overs in his last 30 games, about 3 overs per match. The same happens to RP Singh too. The pacer got a recall after his excellent show in this year’s IPL tournament, but failed to meet the expectations.
Young all rounder Ravindra Jadeja earned a recall thanks to his good performance in Irani Cup and Challenger Trophy tournaments where he performed well both with bat and ball. So, his inclusion in place of Yusuf does not raise any question. Pacer Munaf Patel was also impressive during Irani Cup as he was instrumental behind Rest of India’s first innings lead that eventually decided the winner. So, Munaf’s return does not raise any question too.
Though there is no question about Sudeep Tyagi’s impressive recent form, the exclusion of Abhishek Nayar surely raises some question. He was part of the Indian team in three series, but appeared in 3 games. During these three matches, he could bat only once and remained not out without scoring any run, having faced 7 balls in a 7-wicket victory over West Indies in Champions Trophy 2009. He conceded 17 runs in his 3 overs without any wicket in the 3 games. So, the young all rounder was not given enough chances to prove his skill and talent and I do not think that it was a right decision to exclude him for the Australia series. In this way, a young player like Nayar could lose his confidence and it is not good for Indian cricket. I can still remember the starting years of Yuvraj Singh when he failed to produce any big score innings after innings, but Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had faith in him and supported him. Sometime, Sourav even had to fight with the selectors to keep Yuvraj in the squad and now you can see what Yuvraj means to Indian team. Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan also got these kind of support from Sourav Ganguly.
Now, let us come back to Rahul Dravid story. I just do not understand what selectors had in their mind when they recalled Dravid and what brought an abrupt change in their mind regarding Dravid, one of the most successful ODI batsmen ever. India is going to face a confident Australia in the home series and India ’s confidence is not very high, given their recent performance in Twenty20 world cup and Champions Trophy. So, an experienced player like Dravid could have been very crucial for India . With Sehwag and Yuvraj return, it was expected that two batsmen would have to make way for them, and Dinesh Karthik was an automatic exclusion, even though I believe the diminutive wicket-keeper batsman have the quality to play at this level consistently. Selectors were in a dilemma to exclude one between Virat Kohli and Dravid. To me, Kohli should have made way for Dravid.
The most important thing is that Indian selectors must have some specific long term goals while calling up a new face or recalling an experienced player like Dravid. It is true that Kohli’s recent performance is pretty good and he deserves a place in the squad. In that case, I think, selectors should not have called up Sudeep Tyagi for this series because I know that same thing would happen to Tyagi as well, if he fails to live up to the expectation in the upcoming series and this is in no way good for the future of Indian cricket.
Anyway, here I am giving the 15-men Indian squad for the first 2 ODIs of the series from zeenews:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra, Sudeep Tyagi and Ishant Sharma.
THE FOLLOWING ITS MY OWN COMMENTS

if i am the captain my batting order for this squad(if 7 batsmans)
1.Sachin
2.Sehwaq
3.Gambhir
4.Yuvi
(fantastic top 4) but look the middle
5.Raina
6.kholi
7.dhoni
lets here talk about dravid
DOES HE able to score runs under pressure situations & probably a series aginst aus does he has more talents and experience than a player like dravid due to his inclusion the batting order looks unsettled he is a young talented barsman no doubt on that but at no 6 or no 7 does he more talented than dravid
and another think
what Ravindra Jadeja do better than dravid we needded him help in some important situations in his career he is not good to play against this strong aussie than dravid
what are the selectors mind set?
why they called up dravid?
Even he performed well why they look thier eyes On jadeja?
Are they think jadeja is better than dravid at that moment?
Even dont want to drop kholi for his good form why not this for dravid?
R they thinking about future if they really then why they callled back?
so thats not the reason
IF DRAVID IN THE SQUAD INSTEAD KHOLI THEN THE BATTING ORDER WILL BE
1.SACHIN
2.SEHWAQ
3.GAMBHIR
4.DRAVID
5.YUVI
6.RAINA
7.DHONI
JUST AHVE A LOOK AT THAT ORDER ITS BEEN A TERRIFIC LINE UP BOTH EXPERIENCED YOUTH AGGRESSIVE MODEARTE AND WELL COMPLEXED ONE CAN ATTACK ANY BOWLING LINE UP.
ESSPECIALLY AGAINST AUSSIES WE NEED SOME MORE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS THAT WILL MAKE THEM TO SPEND MORE PLANS

Jadeja inclusion in the team was not a good choice at all.Kohli was picked keeping in the mind of future indian cricket.Dravid must concentrate in tests rather than in odis.Balaji would have been a better choice than ishant who is lacking confidence since last two years. He is ordinarily performing and inconsistent.
ReplyDeleteComing to dravid,if there was such an attention of dropping him then there was no point of bringing him back to the odi squad recently.

ReplyDeleteI dont even cant understand that what Krish Srikanth and MS Dhoni had in their mind about Abhisek Nayar. The young all rounder like Nayar was a precious player for our country. So we must to give more chances to him. So my advice to Dhoni is to give more and more chamber to nayar in the future as what the former indian captain sourav ganguly did for yuvraj singh in the past even Yuvi doesnt able to show his consistent form in the one dayers. So Dhoni should keep it in his Mind.

i think robin uthappa should come 2 indian sqaud he is playing really good for challengers in champions league
ReplyDeletefrom my point of view Robin Uthappa is better option than ravindra jadeja and virat kohli........
ReplyDeleteRahul Dravid should be included instead of jadeja.
ReplyDeleteWe all remember what has happened in T20 world cup League match were jadeja struggled even to clear the inner circle.he is very panic under presure. It is very unfair that dravid has been dropped for the encounter against australia
My Indian lineup
1.SEHWAG
2.SACHIN
3.GAMBHIR
4.YUVRAJ
5.RAINA
6.DHONI
7.KHOLI
8.HARBAJAN
9.PRVEEN KUMAR
10.ISHANT SHARMA/TYAGI
11.NEHRA
Ishant should use this golden oppourtunity to get back his form. One thing that Ishant should rectify is that his bowling speed.
he should be more aggressive and should be aiming at 150Kph
The above team is the best combination for asutralia.

harmeet ,these things are not good for indian team dont blame the selectors, they have chosen the right team,1 or 2 player could have been different but its the selectors who make the call, team is good if they chose the right 11,like sachin,sehwag,gambhir,raina,yuvraj,dhoni,jadeja/as he is a good bowler as well, then for bowlers,i will go with my for strike bowlers, like harbhajan, nehra, ishant, and munaf.if harbhajan dont perform replace with mishra,if seamer dont perform replace with praveen.and i would also like to se a match given at some point of the series to tyagi try him,as these is a 7 match series,go india go u can win the series easily first two games r imp,all the best.

After Sachin Retires Gambhir will move as opener, to train raina has to come as third one.
Apparently Indian team is missing a specialist all arounder like kapil dev. The selectors want to keep their eyes on specialist all-arounder who could bat as well as bowl his 10 over quota providing less than 4.5 economy rate will boost the indian team....... If Kallis or Flinton were in indian team we would have reached the no.1 spot long time ago..... Exclusion of Dravid is really miserable and unpedicable. Dravid can bat according to the sitution where no one can do in these selection including Sachin where failed to prove in many situation where Dravid did. even we are missing great left hand batsman Souvar(great indian captain....... Selector pls keep your look on all rounder................
ReplyDeletei think they must have gone with yusuf pathan in place of jadeja.Thou pathan has not done well in recent past but still he is a match winner on his day especially in indian conditons where ball doesnt seam or swing much.
ReplyDeleteAs far as jadeja is concerned ,no doubt that he's done well in domestic circuit but you couldnt call him a match winner although his balling seems to be nice in batting he lacks the firepower compare to yusuf pathan.....

ReplyDeletei think today dravid can hit a bigger six than sachin. he plays well under pressure. in last champions trophy he shows a terrific performance than any other batsman so why he dropped out. i really dont know why the selectors are demoralising the indian talent
ReplyDeletePolitic's is killing indian cricket ,more money more bad selection ,more match match fixing . how come a special batsman can't even play the ball harbajan can hit for sixer ,surprises me good entertainment ,but bad for game . I would love to watch Bangladesh v zimbave . They play for pride rest of team's play for money . Be a sport's man not actor's, play for pride not for money . It will come,by advertisement .

Thanks guys. I am really happy still people remember him.. He can play better than young players... List out 3 young player who is playing extra-ordinarily … No one Dravid can play 1000 time better than Dhoni…. Just because of politics and state wise cricket they are misusing their powers as selectors and captain. Dravid only created the youngsters cricket. Dhoni should be blessed that dravid and ganguly picked him Only luck. Tell me guys what is dhoni’s performance. Dravid should be play world cup 2011… We will all pray for that legend and will support him to play WC 2011 and under his name India should win the WC.,
ReplyDeleteWill fight for justice, Srikanth want only Tamil players… Dhoni wants all north Indian players…They are not representing our country here. Jai Hind
Dravid is not hunger for money… still he deserves that he can do it. In the age of 35 dhoni must be taking rest in HUMMER and his son’s will be riding his sports bike’s. Legends live simple life…. We are also missing our Dada, Three Murthy’s of India cricket. Nobody will dare to touch or replace Sachin, dravid & Saurav….. Hats off
