WG Grace in Cricket Hall of Fame of ICC

WG Grace does not need any introduction to those who have some knowledge about cricket history. No doubt, WG Grace is one of the greatest figures in cricket history and is perhaps the first mega star of the game. International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently given him the due honor by inducting Grace in ICC Cricket hall of fame. Dominic, the great great grandson of Grace, and his son George received an honorary commemorative cap from ICC chief David Morgan in a formal ceremony. Giles Clarke, chairman of ECB, and Keith Bradshaw, MCC Chief Executive, were also present in the ceremony.



It is nothing but a formal recognition Grace for his immense contribution modern cricket. Known as father of modern cricket, WG Grace scored 1,098 runs in 22 test matches, spanning over 20 years from 1880 to 1899. His greatness becomes more apparent when you consider his first class record. In a first-class career spanning 44 seasons, Grace scored 54,211 runs with 124 centuries and 251 half-centuries. Along with Frank Woolley, Grace jointly holds the first class record for scoring 1000 runs in a season for 28 times.



Besides batting, WG Grace also got success as a bowler as he has 2,809 wickets at 18.14 in his illustrious career. He has 240 five-wicket hauls and 64 ten-wicket hauls.
