ICC World Twenty20 2010 in West Indies from April 30 to May 16

(This entry was originally published on Monday, March 16th, 2009)

You might already know that the third ICC World Twenty20 tournament will be held in West Indies in 2010. Today, ICC announced the date and venues of the tournament following a discussion among the board members held in a teleconference. ICC World Twenty20 2010 is all set to kick off on April 30, 2010 which will continue until the final match being taken place on May 16. Three venues are: St Lucia, Barbados and St Kitts- where all the matches will be held.

The second world Twenty20 is all set to take place in England this year, starting from June 5, 2009. I guess you are a bit confused to know that the third World Twenty20 tournament is going to take place in the space of just one year. Here, it is notable that the tournament is held after every 2 years. However, ICC would organize the third world Twenty20 next year in order to avoid clash with ICC Champions Trophy from next year onwards. You know that ICC Champions Trophy will take place this year because last year’s pre-scheduled Champions Trophy was postponed by 12 months due to concern over security condition of host Pakistan. So, both champions trophy and world twenty20 are going to be held this year and ICC does not want such clash anymore in future.
