FA Community Shield 2009 Live on Sky Sports TV Channel

The season-opening FA Community Shield 2009 match between Premier league winner Manchester United and FA Cup winner Chelsea will take place on 9 August at the Wembley Stadium. So, you can see that the new season of English league is going to be started with this seemingly exciting match. The match will be shown live on Sky Sports television channel under a new deal signed between Football Association (FA) and the Rupert Murdoch’s sports channel.

The match was supposed to be aired on Setanta Sports as the channel held the television rights of Community Shield, FA Cup and England’s away matches. However, following the collapse of the channel, FA was worried about selling the television rights of Community Shield. However, FA has now got some breathing space as it has come under a new deal with Sky Sports under which the channel would broadcast the FA Community Shield as well as FA Women’s Cup final for the next three seasons.

Television rights of English Premier League was also held by Setanta Sports, but now it has been captured by ESPN. The new deal between FA and Sky Sports would make the English football fans happy as they had some bad experience with Setanta’s coverage of the away games of England national team.

Sky Sports is one of the most popular sports channels in Europe and it has previous experience of covering high profile football tournaments including English premier league. So, English football fans do not need to worry about the quality of Sky Sports’ coverage. However, Sky Sports should also remember one thing that expectations among the football fans would be higher this time as they would compare the coverage quality of Sky Sports with that of Setanta Sports.
