(This entry was originally published on Tuesday, March 31st, 2009)

The upcoming England vs Ukraine world cup qualifying match has already caught the attention of English and Ukrainian football fans. The match will take place on Wednesday at the Wembley stadium, London. With 12 points from 4 matches, England is leading the point table of group 6 in 2010 world cup qualifying round. Ukraine with 7 points from 3 games takes the third place on goal difference with second placed Croatia. England is favorite in front of their home fans, but you can not deny that they would also bear a huge pressure thanks to expectation from football fans.

English team has been in an excellent form of recent after a 4-0 recent victory over Slovakia in an international friendly. Ukraine’s recent form may not be as impressive as England’s, but their current form is pretty much satisfactory. Ukraine features a number of young talented players alongside the experienced players like Andriy Shevchenko. No doubt, Shevchenko is a football legend in Ukraine and the Ukrainian fans are expecting a special performance from the striker who had an unsuccessful two-year stint at the English club Chelsea. However, he could be a crucial player for the visiting team because he has class and vast experience with to provide the visitors with moments of glory to clinch a victory for Ukraine in what would be a big shock for the Fabio Capello’s men. So, England defenders are expected to be pretty much cautious about Shevchenko.

For England, Wayne Rooney could steal the show as the players have been in scintillating form of recent. In fact, the players scored two goals in their recent 4-0 mauling of Slovakia. Rooney has grown into a complete, matured striker whom England can now rely on and the player is currently playing at his top. Another special performance from Wayne Rooney could bring a big-margin victory for the home team.
