Chelsea to Run for Premier League Until It is Possible, Says Guss Hiddink

(This entry was originally published on Monday, March 2nd, 2009)

Chelsea’s interim manager Guss Hiddink has said that he would like to see Chelsea running all the way for the premier league title until possibility remains to do so, despite admitting United’s big gap at the top of the league. Hiddink has got his Chelsea role off to a good start as Chelsea clinched three wins in three games including the Champions League win over Juventus last week. Still, Chelsea is seven points adrift of leader Manchester United.

However, Hiddink insists Chelsea would continue running for premier league title. He wants to grow the ‘never give up’ mentality. However, here I want to remind you one thing that Luiz Felipe Scolari also started the season on high note and guided the Blues excellently even while missing a number of key players through injury. However, at the end of the day, he has now been ousted from Stamford Bridge following a series a poor performance on the field.

Chelsea lost a number of key players since last summer and does not have as much squad depth as Manchester United has. Another important thing is that Chelsea does not have any real prospect from their youth side and I think, Chelsea should give more focus on its youth system. Overall, I do not see many chances for Chelsea to overtake Manchester United in the league table and win the title, ending United’s hopes for third premier league title in a row.
