Chelsea Reaches Semi Final of FA Cup 2008-09

(This entry was originally published on Sunday, March 8th, 2009)

Chelsea has reached the semi final of FA Cup 2008-09 as they defeated Coventry City 2-0 on Saturday. With this victory, Chelsea has secured fifth straight win under new manager Guss Hiddink who succeeded Luiz Felipe Scolari only last month. Chelsea went into the game, remembering the bitter experience of last season’s elimination from quarter final in FA Cup after losing to championship outfit Burnley. However, Chelsea eased past Coventry City as Didier Drogba and Alex scored for the Blues.

Drogba put Chelsea ahead in the 16th minute before defender Alex doubled it in the 73rd minute in the match. FA Cup is perhaps the best way for Chelsea to win silverware this season. They are already seven points clear of leader Manchester Untied in premier league and it is only the first knock out round going on in Champions League. So, winning silverware in premier league or Champions League remains a distant possibility.
