Arsenal Star Eduardo da Silva Picked up Another Injury

(This entry was originally published on Friday, March 13th, 2009)

Now, it seems that Eduardo has been synonymous of injury. The Arsenal striker picked up an injury within a week of his brief return last month after a year out injured. After being injured out for 2 weeks, Eduardo came back in action in the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Burnley, scoring the second goal for the Gunners. However, the Croatian international picked up another injury on Wednesday during Arsenal’s nail-biting Champions league victory over Roma.

Eduardo da Silva sustained a groin strain during the extra time of the tie with Roma. However, the good news is that the injury is not very serious and it is expected that he will get over the injury very soon. Arsenal is not in a good position in the premier league. In fact, they are still three points shy of fourth-placed Aston Villa and if Arsenal can not perform consistently, then it would be very difficult for the Gunners to clinch a Champions League berth next season. Moreover, their performance against Roma was not anywhere close to their best, and there are enough reasons not to be optimistic about Arsenal’s hope in Europe. So, Eduardo’s presence in the squad is very important for Arsenal. In fact, it seems that he has not lost his scoring form, despite suffering a career-threatening injury last season. Captain Fabregas is injured out and record-signing Arshavin is cup-tied, and Walcott has just returned after recovering an injury. So, Arsenal fans would like to see Eduardo playing each and every game of Arsenal in the remainder of the season. To be honest, Eduardo is one of those few players who can turn Arsenal’s otherwise disappointing season into successful.
