Thomas Boo Weekley would have given up golf for fishing and hunting

(This entry was originally published in this blog December 2008 and it is based on the information of that time.)

Thomas Brent “Boo” Weekley is one of the most colorful characters in the sports of golf. He became famous for his performance in the 2008 Ryder Cup at the Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky USA. For the first time since 1999, USA golf team won the prestigious cup. However, it is not golf that Boo Weekley likes most, but hunting and fishing. Recently, Boo said that he would have given up golf if he had earned the same amount of money from hunting and fishing. Sky Sports reports:

The 35-year-old Florida native is one of golf’s more colourful characters but has become a media favourite for his quirky, unconventional attitude to the game.

Indeed, he produced arguably the most memorable moment of America’s Ryder Cup victory at Valhalla in September when he produced his own take on the Kentucky Derby by galloping off the first tee in Sunday’s singles matches with his driver between his legs.

Weekley has now added to his eccentric reputation by admitting he would walk away from the pro ranks if he could secure his future by hunting.

Currently ranked 44th, Weekley had a great year. He played his first Masters tournament this year and tied for the 20th position. He also defended his Verizon Heritage cup title in April and played with the American golf team in the prestigious Ryder Cup. Weekley is very happy with his performance at the Ryder Cup. He said that he played his best golf in the Ryder Cup and if he had the opportunity to return there, he would have won ten times a year like Tiger Woods. Looking at his performance, Weekley said that he was convinced that he could play at any level he wanted.
