Liverpool Manager Rafael Benitez Hopeful about Robbie Keane

(This entry was originally posted in this blog on December 3, 2008 and the information is based on that time.)

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is disappointed with Liverpool’s goalless home draw with West Ham United recently. A victory would push Liverpool three points clear of Chelsea. Well, Liverpool now has 1 point lead at the top of the table. Benitez sees it as a positive, but did not hide the disappointment at Liverpool’s failure to pick up three points from the match. The Spanish manager also added that Liverpool’s newly signed striker Robbie Keane has not lived up to the expectation yet since joining the club in the last summer. However, Benitez insists that it is just a matter of time Keane gets his form back.

Goal.com reported:

“We know what kind of player Robbie Keane is. He needs people around him to pass the ball well,” explained the Spaniard.

“I believe he will be OK, he will score more if we create chances for him. But if that does not happen we have to use players with different qualities to open up the game.

“Robbie gets disappointed when things are not going his way. He is a worker, but he can improve.

With 34 points from 16 games, Liverpool is now leading the point table. However, Chelsea is just 1 point away and breathing on the neck of all reds. So, let us see if Liverpool can hold on this narrow lead or increase the lead in the weeks to come.
