Today (28 April 2009), the organizing committee of the ICC World Cup 2011 held a meeting in Mumbai where some important decisions regarding the tournaments were taken. Some of the significant decisions made at the meeting are:
1. Final match of ICC World Cup 2011 will take place in
2. Out of 49 matches, 29 will be held in
3. Re-allotment of 14 matches, which had initially been given to
4. The decision of shifting the tournament secretariat from
5. The tournament organizing committee will form an operations and planning incorporating Mahbubul Anam, the Bangladesh Cricket Board senior vice-president, BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, Duleep Mendis from Sri Lanka and Ratnakar Shetty, the chief administrative officer of BCCI.
6. Ratnakar Shetty has been appointed as the managing director of the tournament, replacing Salman Butt, a Pakistani banker, who was initially appointed in this post.
7. Special advisor to ICC, IS Bindra, will play a key role in the management of the tournament.
Well, this is definitely disappointing news for the Pakistani cricket fans that their country will not be allowed to host the 2011 ICC World Cup due to the uncertain security condition in the country. As security has become a very big issue ahead of this elite cricket tournament, there will be special committee working on security which will be headed by BCCI chief Shashank Manohar. Now, let us just hope to see a safe and successful world cup tournament in 2011.
