England vs Kazakhstan Live Updates: 6 June 2009

Kazakhstan hosts England in a Group 6 match of FIFA World Cup Qualifying 2010 on 6 June 2010 at the Almaty Central Stadium, Almaty. With 15 points from 5 games, England now leads the point table and holds a solid 5-point advantage over second placed Croatia. Kazakhstan has already been out of world cup qualifying race after losing 4 out of their 5 games so far. However, Kazakhstan fans are no less excited than the English fans with this match because they are going to see some of their favorite football playing in front of them.

England defeated Kazakhstan 5-1 in their home fixture last year, but faced huge challenge from the Kazakhs who kept it clean sheet until the half time. However, the three lions can not expect an easy affair when they face the home side in a country where they have never been before. Moreover, the Almaty Central Stadium is situated about 700 meters above the sea level. So, it would be interesting to see how England players adopt to the new condition and win the challenge of playing at such a high altitude.

All these factors indicate that we could see an exciting match tomorrow. Fans of both sides are very much excited with the match as well. The match will be telecast live on Setanta Sports television channel at 16:00 BST (British Standard Time) on 6 June. Setanta Sports is an Ireland-based television channel which has 12 channels operating in 24 countries.

Setanta Sports currently holds the official television rights of England’s away matches, and thus, the channel has exclusive rights to cover England’s game against Kazakhstan. This is a match for which millions of cricket fans are now waiting for. However, many England fans are not happy with Setanta Sports as the channel failed to share its feed with free-to-air channels like BBC to show the highlights of England’s qualifying matches against Andorra and Croatia in September last year. That made the English fans furious against Setanta Sports, and many English football fans showed their anger by carrying banners and placards showing slogans: “We Hate Setanta” during those two away fixtures.

Setanta Sports is now facing huge financial problems and the channel’s future has also become uncertain amid the current economic problem. There are reports out in the media suggesting that the match between England and Kazakhstan could be the last qualifying match of England to be shown live on Setanta Sports.

What is wrong with the British. If none of us pay the chanels that insist on hijacking these national events they would be bankrupt very quickly and they would be back on the BBC and ITV live. We are of course just idiots
