Australia vs Qatar Text Commentary: World Cup Qualifying 2010

Qatar will take on Australia tomorrow in a must-win game of Group A of AFC fourth round 2010 world cup qualification. With only 1 win and 1 draw out of 6 games, Qatar is left in the last place of the group standing, while Australia with 4 wins and a draw in 5 games currently leads the point table. Australia just needs 1 point from their remaining 3 games to ensure their place in the 2010 world cup final in South Africa.

On the other hand, Qatar is left with a huge task to conduct in order to keep their hopes of qualifying to the final event of world cup alive. Qatar has two matches in hand and they must win both the games if they are to clinch the third place in the group in what would allow them to go into the play-off game against the third placed team of Group B. At this moment, Australia and Japan are securing the first and second places in the group and it is totally impossible for Qatar to overtake them. However, they can catch Bahrain who are currently in the third place with 7 points from 6 games, 3 points above Qatar. Even two wins in the remaining two games would not ensure Qatar the third place, because they have to rely on the results of Bahrain’s games.

No doubt, Qatar football fans are much more worried about the match than the Australian fans. However, it does not mean that Australian fans will not have any attraction for the game. In fact, if Australia can achieve at least one point from the match, this will be an occasion for the Australian fans to celebrate. However, the only problem is that the match time is very odd for the soccer fans in Australia. The match kicks off at 16:00 GMT. That means the match will start at 3am or 4am in Australia.
