You already know that former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has appointed as the new permanent coach of England national cricket team. Zimbabwe cricket fans are very much delighted with Flower becoming England coach. Andy Flower is one of the legends of Zimbabwe cricket and is the most successful batsman for the country in both forms of cricket.
Andy Flower pulled himself out of Zimbabwe cricket team along with teammate Henry Olonga after the 2003 world cup as part of his protest against autocracy of Robert Mugabe-government inside the Zimbabwe cricket board. After that, he continued playing in county cricket before taking up the job of assistant coach in England national team. Following the sacking of former coach Peter Moors, England team was without a permanent coach and Flower was appointed as the stand-in coach for the West Indies tour during which Flower developed a strong working relationship with Captain Andrew Strauss. Finally, ECB has decided to give the England coach’s job to Andy Flower permanently.
Naturally, Zimbabwe cricket fans are very much happy that Flower is now the captain of England team. However, Flower is not the first Zimbabwean cricket to have been appointed as England coach. Former Zimbabwe captain Duncan Fletcher also had a very successful 8-year stint as England national team coach during which England regained their Ashes title from Australia in 2005 after 18 years. Now, let us see if Andy Flower would also become as much successful as Fletcher during his coaching term with England team.
