After suffering a crashing defeat to world no. 4 Andy Murray in the semi final of Madrid Masters on Sunday, Roger Federer now heads to his home tournament in Basel. In the first round, he will face American Bobby Reynolds who is 86th in ATP ranking. Federer is expected pull off an easy victory over his American opponent in the first round. The year 2008 was not of a great one for the Swiss no. 2. Roger Federer lost his no. 1 spot to his Spanish rival Rafael Nadal who won two grand slam titles this year. Federer could manage to win only US Open which has been his only grand slam title this year.
With the semi final defeat to Andy Murray in the Madrid Masters, it has been ensured that Roger Federer will not be able to regain his top spot this year. So, there is less significance of the home tournament organized in Basel. Still, Roger Federer will be looking to win the title of the tournament in front of his home fans.
