Liverpool’s Spanish forward Fernando Torres has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League fixture away at Atletico Madrid on tomorrow (22 October 2008) due to injury. Torres picked up a hamstring problem representing Spain in world cup qualifier last week. However, the Spanish international received an invitation from Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerez to attend the match.
Torres started his career at Atletico Madrid in 2001 and spent six seasons at the Spanish league club before moving to Liverpool in 2007. Though Rafael Benitez will be without Torres, there is good news for the manager. Ryan Babel is available for the match after recovering his ankle injury that kept him out of the 3-2 victory over Wigan Athletic at the weekend. Javier Mascherano has also returned to the contention after missing out the Wigan match due to fatigue. Still, losing Fernando Torres for the match against Atletico Madrid on the road may not be that easy to contend with.
