Arsenal’s Injury Woes Increased

If you are an Arsenal fan, the title must have given you some bad feeling as Arsenal’s injury list is just increasing. With Eduardo da Silva and Tomas Rosicky being in the long term injury list, Arsenal physios have now got to treat a number of new players in the treatment room. As much as six players picked up injuries during world cup qualifying matches for their respective countries.

Captain Williams Gallas, Bacary Sagna, and Nicklas Bendtner will definitely have to miss Arsenal’s next two matches. Gallas sustained a hamstring injury, while Bacary Sagna needs treatment to his knee before coming back to action. Striker Nicklas Bendtner took a knock to his ankle. That means all these three key players have to sit out for the Everton match tomorrow (18 October 2008) and miss the trip to Fenerbahce in Champions League next week.

Well, it is not the end of Arsenal’s injury woes. There are at least three more players including star midfielder Cesc Fabregas, defender Johan Djourou and regular striker Robin van Persie. Fabregas is suffering from his broken nose which he picked up playing for Spain, while Dutch striker Robin van Persie has a minor muscle problem. Djourou picked up a concussion representing his country. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hopeful about the availability of Fabregas, Djourou and Robin van Persie for the match against Everton at home. However, the manager admitted that losing three players like Williams Gallas, Bacary Sagna, and Nicklas Bendtner is heavy loss.

The good news for Arsenal is that long-term absentee French midfielder Abou Diaby is set to come back in action with the match against Everton. Wenger has confirmed that Diaby will be part of Arsenal squad for the Everton match.
