Arsenal will play against newly promoted West Bromwich Albion at home tomorrow in their first match of English premier league 2008-2009 season. For both sides, the match has great importance. This is going to be the fourth season for West Bromwich Albion in premier league since 2002 and they will not want to relegate once again at the end of this season. Arsenal, on the other hand, will try to continue their surprise performance with Arsene Wenger’s young brigade this season. Many had written off Arsenal at the beginning of the last season, but Arsenal stunned everyone with their brilliant piece of football midway through the season and they could have ended winning the trophy if did not lose their rhythm at the end.

Match: Arsenal vs West Bromwich Albion, English Premier League 2008-2009

Date: 16 August 2008

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Kick off time: 12:45 BST

Now, ahead of the first match, both teams are gearing up to start the season in style. For West Bromwich Albion, a draw could well be considered as a good start, while Wenger boys will definitely seek to win the match with big margin in what would be a good start for the Gunners.

Arsenal has lost a number of key player including Mathieu Flamini, Alexander Hleb, Gilberto Silva and Jens Lehmann. With Emmanuel Adebayor also looking to see off Arsenal, the Gunners side seems to be too young for the race of premier league. However, do not do the same mistake that many did in the last season by writing off Arsenal’s chance at the beginning of the season just seeing a bunch of young players left at Emirates. Yes, the players are young and most of them are inexperienced, but you can not afford to forget the formidable man behind the side, Arsene Wenger.

West Bromwich Albion promoted to the premier league as the champion of last season’s Championship. Manager Tony Mowbray is happy with the team he got to fight at the top flight of English football.

Goal.com reported:

Mowbray said: "I think every manager wants another couple of players, and I'm no different. We are continuing to work hard to bring players in that will help the areas of the pitch that need some assistance at the moment.

"Potentially one or two players are going to play out of position at the weekend. In an ideal world we'd have had a few more bodies in, but let's wait and see."

Arsenal will miss a number of key players for the opening match against West Bromwich Albion. Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Abou Diaby (thigh) and Eduardo da Silva (broken leg) will miss action for a number of weeks, while players like Cesc Fabregas, Kolo Toure, Philippe Senderos, and Samir Nasri are also facing injury problem and missed last Wednesday’s Champions League match. Fabregas is facing hamstring injury and he is not in the contention for the first match, but Samir Nasir could win his debut match tomorrow, despite his knee injury.

AFP reported:

Wenger told Arsenal TV On-Line: "Nasri should be okay (for Saturday). A reasonable target for Fabregas is the second leg of the Champions League game, but Diaby will take four to six weeks."

Arsenal completed the signing of French international midfielder Samir Nasri from Marseille for 12 million pounds early last month.

West Bromwich Albion will miss defender Neil Clement who has been ruled out of the match with knee injury. In his place, defender Abdoulaye Meite will play his debut match against Arsenal. There is no more injury woe in the side. So, they can deploy their best possible side against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal will go into the match with favorite’s tag and West Bromwich Albion is clearly underdog in the match. However, when it comes to football, you can not predict anything for sure, because uncertainty there in every layer of the game. So, I think, West Bromwich Albion might throw some tough challenges for Arsenal, even though many people are ready to bet on Arsenal. Arsenal is definitely the expected winner of the match, but football fans are interested to enjoy an exciting match; instead of an one-sided match.
