As you know that there are three matches left in Euro 2008 tournament. Tonight in the first semi final Germany and Turkey will face each other, while Russia will take on Spain tomorrow in the second semi final of the tournament. There is no doubt that before the tournament kicked off, there was hardly anyone who could even dream of seeing Turkey and Russia in the last four of the tournament. From this point of view, football fans have already experienced enough surprise in the tournament so far. The question here comes is that if surprises will be stopped at this level of the tournament or continue till the end of the tournament. For both Turkey and Russia, this is their first semi final appearance.
Now, there are many questions around the tournament: will any new team win the European Champions this time as Greece did it four years back in 2004, or will Spain be able to regain their second Euro title after 44 years, or will Germany be able to claim their fourth European Championship title? The answers of all the questions will be available on 29 June 2008. I think, if Spain can stave off the challenge of Russia, they do really have a good chance to taste another European Championship title. On the other hand, Germany has a long tradition of winning titles silently in the major football tournaments, even without being at their prime some times. As a team Turkey’s main strength lies in their team unity and mental toughness. So, I would not be surprised if they could at least make it to the final of Euro 2008 tournament. For Russia, I think, they have played a big role in making the tournament as exciting as it has been. So, at this moment, I think, Euro 2008 is still very open and I would not write off any team at this stage of the tournament. Let us just hope to see three classic matches in the tournament in what it could be the best ever Euro tournament, the claim which has already been raised in the media.
