Ana Ivanovic in French Open 2008

Ana Ivanovic emerged as a new star of tennis world last year with reaching a grand slam semi final and a final. Ivanovic is currently ranked world no. 2 in women’s singles tennis. The Serbian star started off the year reaching Australian Open 2008 final where she lost to Maria Sharapova. This was the second grand slam final for the 20 year old star after French Open 2007. Last year, Ana Ivanovic lost to the eventual champion Justine Henin in the final of French Open. Now, Justine Henin has retired from tennis recently. So, it seems Ana Ivanovic has better chance to win her first grand slam title in French Open 2008.

Following the success of French Open 2007, Ana Ivanovic went on her impressive performance in Wimbledon 2007, reaching the semi final of the tournament. In the year end grand slam, US Open 2008, she could reach up to fourth round. Thus, she could finish the year 2007 at no. 4 of WTA ranking. Now, Ana Ivanovic has memories of Australian Open 2008 success fresh in her mind ahead of French Open 2008 that begins from 25 May 2008. Following the retirement of Justine Henin, who was the French Open title holder for the last three consecutive years, now the French Open title is much more open. There are a number of probable contenders for French Open 2008 title. So, I think, Ana Ivanovic has a good chance to win her first grand slam title in French Open 2008. However, to achieve it, she needs to be at her best during the tournament.

So, it is, for sure, Ana Ivanovic is a one of the top favorites of women’s singles of French Open 2008. However, her recent performance is not satisfactory at all and she can not find anything inspirational from her last two tournament tours. Ana Ivanovic failed to reach the final of German Open being defeated to seventh ranked Elena Dementieva 6-2, 7-5 in the semi final. If you think that reaching semi final was not that much bad performance by Ana Ivanovic, then come to her most recent performance of Italian Open where she lost to Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the second round. Following the poor performance, Ana Ivanovic admitted that things did not go in her way as she had struggled to find her rhythm during the match.

The Star reported:

“I felt quite flat out there and I found it a struggle to find my rhythm and find something inside to fight,” Ivanovic told a news conference.

“I really struggled with my intensity today and obviously that caused a lot of errors.

“It's something I have to work on. Now I have 10 days to prepare for the French Open”.

This is obviously not good news for the fans of Ana Ivanovic. Ivanovic is one of the most talented stars of today’s tennis with lots of potential in her. She even proved her talent and ability on a number of occasions over the last year. Mind it, she was the runner up of French Open 2007, and she continued her success in Australian Open 2008 too. So, I think, she just needs to stick to her basics in what she would find her lost confidence, if she has lost any.

Personally, I think, Ana Ivanovic has all the qualities to become a legend of tennis in future. She has talent coupled with a working hard mentality that, I think, is the key to success for any player in any sport. What makes me impressed more about Ana Ivanovic is that she has been improving herself continuously. You can point out the performance of Ana Ivanovic in two most recent WTA tours, but I think, still Ana Ivanovic has a great chance to win the title of French Open 2008,. Why? Well, she is young, can cope up with pressure well, and can work hard, so these are enough to bring out a big success for a player. So, you can not put someone of Ana Ivanovic’s stature out of the favorites’ list. I think, she would bounce back in French Open 2008 and she is a big threat for other contenders of French Open 2008 title.
