Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard expressed that Liverpool had a greater ambition than finishing fourth in the league. He hinted Champions League the tournament where they would seek compensation of Premier league. Indicating the success of Arsenal at the league, he expressed that Liverpool had the squad to be a lot more competitive team that they were at present.
Bleacherreport reported:
“In the position we find ourselves now, fourth place is the least that is acceptable. We need to improve dramatically and, even if we do finish fourth, it doesn’t mean we’ve had a good season."
"We have bigger ambitions than that. The only way we can fulfil those ambitions is in the Champions League and I am not going to pretend that even winning that trophy — and we are a long way away from it at the moment — will make up for the disappointment of the league campaign."
"I still believe we have the squad to be a hell of a lot more competitive than we are."
Liverpool has inspirational performance of late in premier league as they secured four consecutive victories in the league. The club is perhaps going though the best time in premier league so far this season. All reds netted 10 goals in their last three league fixtures. There are many people who think that Liverpool is now out of title race in premier league. Even, captain Gerrard also said that Champions League is now the only way to fulfill their expectations. Liverpool is now at the fourth place of the league with 56 points to their credit. They are now ten points behind the leaders Arsenal. Considering Arsenal’s recent premier league form, I think, Liverpool’s title hope is still active, though they have to show sheer consistency in the remainder of the season to lift the premier league title.
