Daniela Hantuchova in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Daniela Hantuchova is ranked ninth in women’s singles ranking. The Slovakian star is one of the top seeds for Australian Open 2008. The tournament kicks off from January 14. She has got back her place in the top ten last year after five years. Though she could not win any grand slam singles titles so far, she has four doubles grand slam titles. Her fans can be a bit worried regarding her fitness as she withdrew herself from the JB Group Classic tournament in Hong Kong due to her abdominal problem. However, she looked fit enough in the Sydney International where she lost to Nicole Vaidisova in the second round.

Hantuchova could face Anna Chakvetadze in the fourth round. Her probable quarter final opponent would be Svetlana Aleksandrovna or Nadia Petrova. If she can survive till the semi final then she may face Venus Williams or Marion Bartoli or Ana Ivanović or Dinara Safina. It is obvious that she needs to put her career best performance to make it to the final.
