India and Australia will face each other in the fifth ODI match of the Indian vs Australia ODI series at the I.P.C.L. Sports Complex Ground, Vadodara on 11 October 2007. Winning the fourth ODI match, India came back to the series. However, Australia still leads in the series by 2-1. So, India has to win all of the remaining matches to win the ODI series. In contrast to India, Australia needs to win just two out of three matches to claim the series.

No doubt, Australia is still in good position in the series despite their 16 run defeat in the last match. The fourth ODI match was really competitive and fans enjoyed the match with much of excitement. This was the first ODI win for India’s new captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The man of the match award has made the occasion special for Dhoni. Indian fans are now hoping to see the repeat of India’s Twenty20 world cup performance in this series against Australia.

The good news for India is that Indian bowlers also got back their form along with their batsmen. Winning the toss Indian captain choose to bat first though the wicket was initially helpful for the pacers. However, India’s legendary opening pair Sachin- Sourav presented with another impressive opening partnership. Though they were very slow at scoring initially, the 91 run opening stand built the platform of India’s 291 total. Sachin scored 79 off 119 balls whereas Sourav Ganguly scored 41 runs facing 59 balls.

In the middle order it was Captain Dhoni who helped India to throw a challenging total to Australia. Dhoni played a 35 ball 50 with five boundaries and one over boundary. Yuvraj scored 39 and Robin Uthappa scored 30 runs in the end. Chasing 291 runs, Australia started superbly with scoring comfortably maintaining a good run rate. Mathew Hayden was impressive from the very beginning. He continued his dominance over the Indian bowlers before his dismissal at 92. However, Australia’s middle order was not up to the mark except Andrew Symonds, the continuous performer of this series. Symonds played an excellent innings of 84 ball 75 with three 4s and one 6. Harbhajan Singh bowled very well taking two important wickets. Rudra Pratap Singh and Irfan Pathan were also impressive in the match.

Now, Indian fans are hoping to see Indian players continuing the same performance in the upcoming fifth ODI against Australia. No doubt, Australia will also try their best to win the match to go more closure to win the series. So, fans can expect a competitive match in the fifth ODI.
