Twenty20 World Cup 2007: New Zealand Wins Over England

New Zealand continued their tremendous performance in the second match of Super Eight stage in Twenty20 world cup 2007. New Zealand defeated England by five runs in a close match. With excellent batting performance of Scott Styris and Craig McMillan, New Zealand piled on 164 runs. Scott Styris scored 42 and Craig McMillan could 57 runs for New Zealand.

Chasing 164 runs, England openers started in style putting on 62 runs in the opening partnership within 7.5 overs. New Zealand bowlers looked ordinary early in the innings. However, after coming in to bowling, Captain Daniel Vettori started dominating over the English batsmen. In his four over, Vettori took two important wickets of Vikram Solanki and Kevin Pietersen conceding just 20 runs. In the middle order and lower order, England batsmen could not show any resistance against New Zealand bowlers. Opening batsmen Darren Maddy was the highest scorer of England. He scored 50 runs facing just 31 balls with four boundaries and two over boundaries.

So, for England, semi final entrance has now become nearly impossible. Their semi final hope now depends of many ‘What if’ logics. On the other hand, New Zealand is now about to enter into the semi final round of Twenty20 world cup.
