Women’s World Cup 2007: England Squad

Women’s World Cup 2007 is going to start from 10 September in China. This will be the fifth tournament of Women’s World Cup football. Women’s World Cup football was first held in 1991 in China. The tournament is held once in every four years like the men’s world cup football. Germany is the defending champion of the tournament and they are also favorite for the upcoming 2007 women’s world cup.

It is true that Women’s would cup football is not as much popular as the men’s world cup football. However, gradually the popularity of Women’s world cup is increasing. Now, ahead of the forthcoming Women’s World Cup 2007, all the participating teams and their officials are busy with their last minute preparation. Coaches are busy with forming the final squad and making strategy.

Recently England has declared their 21 member squad for Women’s World Cup 2007. Though England is one of the big powers in the men’s football, England women’s football team does not have so much dominance in the women’s football. 2007 Women’s World Cup will be the second world cup for England. They played in the second Women’s World Cup in 1995 in Sweden. They could reach at the quarter final stage of that world cup.

England coach former footballer Hope Powell focused much on the experienced players. Except five players, all of the English footballers have more than 20 match experience. Nine players have experience of playing 50 or more international matches. Most of the players of the squad play for Arsenal and Everton in English Premier League. Midfielder Rachel Yankey has appeared for England in 71 matches and she is the most capped player in the squad. Goal keeper Rachel Brown is one of the best goal keepers of England at this moment. In 2007 world cup qualifying matches, Rachel Brown conceded only 2 goals for England in the tournament. Young forward Eniola Aluko is playing well whereas veteran Kelly Smith is thought to be one of the best women footballers in the history of English football. Midfielder Karen Carney and Fara Williams are playing well in the midfield. Captain Faye White is the notable defender of the current squad.

I think, England’s current women’s football team is balanced and they have some promising and experienced footballers. England will play in Group A along with defending champion Germany, Argentina and Japan. Germany is definitely favorite to go into quarter final from this group. England hasto show some excellent performances against Latin Power Argentina to get the ticket of quarter final. England will play their first match against Japan on 11 September 2007. England players have sheer experience of playing international level and this will be an advantage of England in the coming Women’s World Cup 2007.

Here, I am giving the names of the players of England women’s squad of women’s world cup 2007 below:
