UEFA Super Cup 2007 without Daniel Alves?

Ahead of the upcoming UEFA Super Cup 2007, Sevilla now seems to have problem with their Brazilian defender Daniel Alves. It has been reported that Alves refused to travel with the team. Sevilla has two important matches soon. They will play UEFA Champions league third round qualifying match against AEK Athens. On 31 August they will play against AC Milan in UEFA Super Cup 2007 competition. So, it is natural that Sevilla is not happy with the decision of Daniel Alves.

However, Daniel Alves has refused it and said that he had some talk with the technical staff that he would be practicing with the second team and will remain in Spain.

Reuters reported:

Club president Jose Maria del Nido publicly criticised the want-away Brazil international on Monday, questioning his professionalism for not flying with his team mates.

"It was decided by mutual agreement between me and the club not to be with the team at the moment," Alves said in a statement carried in the Spanish media on Tuesday.

"The fact is the technical staff agreed with me before the team left, that I would train with the second team and of course I will comply with those instructions as with all the others they give me."

Daniel Alves is one of the key players of Sevilla at this moment. His absence will definitely lessen the strength of their defense in UEFA Super Cup 2007. Now, AC Milan strikers can feel relaxed that their task will be easy as Daniel Alves is going to be absent in UEFA Super Cup 2007 match.
