Rugby World Cup 2007: Ireland Squad

Rugby world cup 2007 will start from 7 September in France. Participating teams are preparing for their world cup campaign and coach are busy with making tactics for the world cup. Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan has declared his 30 man squad. Before the start of the world cup, major concerns of Irish team is now on Shane Horgan. This veteran member of Ireland has fallen in a knee injury last month. He will definitely miss the first match of Ireland against Namibia but he may come back with the second match against Georgia.

Captain Brian O’Driscoll along with forwards Malcolm O’Kelly and Alan Quinlan is going to play his third rugby world cup. Eddie O’Sullivan has included 10 other players who will be playing their second world cup in France. Irish winger Denis Hickie will retire from international rugby after the world cup. Denis Hickie now jointly holds the try scoring record with O’Driscoll for Ireland.

Another bad news for Ireland is that their captain Brian O’Driscoll will miss the first match as he has fallen in injury during a warm up match. So, it will have a big impact on Ireland. However, it is a matter of hope that Ireland will play their first two matches against two underdog teams Namibia and Georgia. So, Captain Brian O’Driscoll and Shane Horgan have the chance to come back before the matches against France and Argentina.

Ireland has played in all five world cup tournaments and except in 1999, they played in quarter final stage in all other editions of Rugby world cup. This time in France, they have to play their best to enter into the quarter final round because Ireland will play in Pool D along with mighty France and strong team Argentina. Moreover, they will also play against Georgia and Namibia in the group. Ireland will begin Rugby World Cup 2007 with the match against Namibia on 9 September 2007.

I am giving all the names of the Ireland squad blow:
