Alison Riske, the 17 year old junior at Peters Township High School is going to play in US Open Qualifier starting from Tuesday. The problem is that they do not have much money to go to New York so they are going to go by car. Post Gazette reports:
Riske, a junior at Peters Township High School, lost to No. 2 seed Ashley Weinhold, 6-3, 6-3.
Riske will be among a field of 128 women competing for 16 spots in the U.S. Open.
"It's the U.S. Open; I'm going to!" she said with a high-pitched giggle. "I can't believe it. I have so much anxiety. Just the thought of it is overwhelming. You only dream of this. I've never been to New York. Now I'm actually going to be a part of the U.S. Open. It's really hard to comprehend."
She plans to display the same confidence in New York that she had in California.
"I thought I could do real well out there. I had the game to back it up," said Riske, who won the singles title at the National Collegiate Clay Court Championships at the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center last month. She also won the singles title in the WPIAL and PIAA last fall.
Riske said that she has improved her game and very excited for this opportunity. However, she has a tough road ahead of her.
