Swimming is not a very rich sports but it creates a lot of enthusiasm among the sports fans. I mean by swimming, a swimmer cannot earn millions of dollars like some other sports but when the time of Olympic comes millions of people get excited about the swimming results. Swimming has a lot of gold medals to offer in Olympic events.
Here, I have made a list of the top ten greatest swimmers of all time. Of course, this kind of list often creates controversy and my list may not satisfy many people as they will feel disappointed and even angry that their favorite player is not in this list. So, I apologize in advance for it. I have just made the list from my own research and you don’t have to agree with the list.
Mark Spitz
Spitz is the greatest swimmer in the history of swimming. With his 11 Olympic medals, he became the fourth highest medalist in the Olympic history and jointly the highest in Men’s Swimming. By the ten, he came in to the focus while he held 17 national age-group and one world record. He attended his first Olympic Games in 1968 having been expected to win at least 6 gold medals as he was the holder of ten world records by then. The reality was different as he could win just two gold medals and a silver and bronze medal. It was then in 1972 Munich Olympic Games, where he made history winning 7 gold medals with new world records in each. None of the Olympians, till today, has same achievement in a single Olympic Games. He took retirement at the age of 22 surprisingly. In his post retirement age, he attended in some TV show including “The Tonight Show”, “The Sony and Cher Comedy Hour” and “The Dean Martin Show”. I went to the same college as Matt Biondi. He's not only a fantastic swimmer, but good looking too. The female members of the swim team used to spend extra time at the pool just to watch his graceful strokes :) .
ReplyDeleteWe are fortunate in the Nashville TN area to have one of the greatest age group swimmers ever. Charles (Chas) Morten
ReplyDeleteCurrently in his mid 30's he still holds (4) U-8 (3) 9-10 (3) 11-12 and (1) 13-14 national age group swim records. He is still possesses nearly flawless stroke technique and explosive power off the wall.

DeleteWhat do you mean?
DeleteAre u saying that girls are stupid and can't swim?!😶
NUH UH GIRLS ARE COOLER THAN MEN IN FACT WE DON'T EVEN NEED MEN IN THIS WORLD WOMEN ARE THE ONES WHO REPOPULATE SO NUH UH
DeleteHow old are you? Do you know how to spell, or are you just stupid?
Deleteumm if you didn't realize, we need men in this world to repopulate
Deleteall of these swimmers re truely kick ass!11
ReplyDeleteRiiight
DeleteLooks as if as having a better technique....By the way how much he clocks the speed in butterfly and breast strokes.....The figures matters...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember Don Schollander (1964 and '68 Olympics)?
ReplyDeletewho is Krisztina Egerszegi ????????
ReplyDeleteshe sounds coolllll
phelps is number 1.
ReplyDeletephelps is way better than all those people combined. no one will ever pass him
ReplyDeleteHe has already been surpassed.
Deleteby who? no one can ever win 8 gold medals in 1 olympics, and no one can get as many medals overall as he has in the little amount of time he did. also name one other swimmer who made the olympic team when they were 15... oh wait you cant. good try though
DeleteLeisel Jones made the olympics at 15. good try though
DeletePhelps did to he. He actually came 5th in the 200fly final. But Aaron peirsol is the best he took silver in sidney at thr age of 16
DeleteI don't want to disagree but Michael phelps probably isn't better than dawn Fraser. She was a great swimmer before there was all the training places and stuff
Deletephelps is the best swimmer in the world so dont even try to disagree.
DeletePHELPS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Deletephelps is not the best
DeleteYes he is!
DeleteYes he is the best swimmer!
DeleteThorpe "..has already been compared with the legends of middle-distance swimmers" .. and that all he was a middle distance swimmers .He only won 400m in 2000 , then 200m , 400m in 2004 ... but with a special suit . how the heck he is in top 10 ever list ?
ReplyDeleteWait isn't Ian Thorpe that guy who beat Michael Phelps using some sorta swimming suit!!!!! If so HOW THE HECK DID HE MAKE THE TOP 1O !?!?!?!?!!!!
DeleteWait Thorpe Ian Thorpe!!! Isn't he that guy who beat Micheal Phelps by like a inch only cause he was wear some fancy swimming hat?!?! and another question, How DID he get in the top 10 swimmers I mean seriously!!!!!
DeleteGuys Ian Thorpe didnt win just because he wore a swim suit. He had to actually be good to catch up to Michel Phelps
DeleteThorpe is an Australian Champion!
DeleteJAMES
ReplyDeleteIM A STRAIGHT UP Q
ReplyDeleteJAMES GREGORY HAMILTON!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe best female swimmer of all times is Inge de Bruijn, so including females means including her first. There is no woman even near.
ReplyDeleteAlexander Popov?????
ReplyDeletewhere's Cesar Cielo??? the faster...
ReplyDeleteI'm not seeing the name POPOV in this list. This list is nothing without the name POPOV on it. And the 'Czar' doesn't need special suits nor other tricks like that to be the faster in his times.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the bad english...
You're absolutely right. Without Popov the list doesn't mean much. He won gold in Barcelona, Atlanta, Athens, Perth and Moscow. He won gold in so many World Championships I can't even remember. He should be front and center.
Deleteluv all great swimmers xo mch!
ReplyDeleteGood Post..
ReplyDeletei am the best swimmer
ReplyDeletehahaha
DeleteAs for the best women's breaststroker, I'd go for Tracy Caulkins and don't forget Tracy McFarland, she swam within the Olympics and as a Masters. She additionally did a swim video with John Moffet.
ReplyDeleteWhat about alex popov?
ReplyDeletethe best swimmer ever is phelps and all of you who say different go die in a whole
ReplyDeletelol people like you who make me laugh at how naive you are
Deletei think we missed a couple of great american women, Tracy Caulkins, Janet Evans, and of course Dara Torres, If you go back and look at National, world records , Caulkins and Evans had many. There greatness was overshadowed by the 1980 boycott, and Torres, well hell, 1980 would have made another Olympics, and btw, DO NOT COUNT HER OUT IN LONDON! Momma can still sprint with the best of them...
Deleteobviously Popov was just a fluke that did several world records by luck...
ReplyDeletebig difference between sprinters and long distance swimmers. Tom Jager was a super fish.
ReplyDeletei said....
ReplyDeletei love fish ummmm...
I LOVE Swimming :D
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeleteAre you people nuts, Janet Evans held all the distance swimming records for nearly 20 yrs!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMicheal Phelps signature event is 200m Fly, not Free!
ReplyDeletemichael phelps has 6 pet events and ian thorpe is a champ his suit wasn't even a fast skin and you r forgetting me on the list :)
ReplyDeletei am the best swimmer, but michael phelps comes close second
ReplyDeleteAll the american swimmers top up with relays. Biondi only won 2 individual golds. Popov & Van den Hoogenband won more individual but cos rest of their countries swimmers aren't as good, they are not given credit they deserve.
ReplyDeleteNah. Stupid rating. Stupid americans.
ReplyDeleteamericans suck
ReplyDeleteyes yes they do
DeletePhelps is still a better swimmer than you ever will be, so by that logic you suck more than americans
Deleteya WE suck did you look in the mirror loser
DeleteBITCH WHO THE FUCK U THINK U ARE AND IF YOU BLACK GO FUCK A BLACK GIRLS DICK CAUSE UH IM A FUCKIN AMERICAN AND IF U GOT A PROBLEM WITH DIS REPLY WRITE BACK DICK HEAD AND IF YO ASS CAME FROM SOME WHERE BESIDES INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA THAN FUCKIN LEAVE PRICK

Why all the talk about Johnny Weismuller's Tarzan career. Why not mention the fact that he was never beaten in a race for which he held the World Record and he held 50 odd world records in his time.
ReplyDeleteall of you peeps suck
ReplyDeletehello peeps
ReplyDeleteWhere is Cesar cielo in in your list ???
ReplyDeletehow would he be considered one of the best he is fast in two events only recently and only has one gold metal and tied for bronze in the last olympics and hasn't gone close to his world record times in a while
Delete:) i love swimming and im so happpyyy to a swimmer hopelly one day i will be like this swimmers :)

ReplyDeleteWHERE IS RYAN LOCHTE!???
ReplyDeletewhat about Eric the Eel?!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.theranktank.com/blog/2012/07/eric-the-eel/
I THINK DANIEL HUNGER IS THE BEST OF TIME
ReplyDeleteAny list of the The Top 10 Swimmers of All Time has to have the late, great Murray Rose in it. To genuine students of international swimming since the advent of the modern Olympics (1896) Rose, not Thorpe, is the greatest Australian male swimmer. Certainly Phelps has to be #1 on any Top 10 of All Time list. And Spitz has to be #2. I would rank Fraser at #3, Egerszegi at #4 and Rose at #5. But after that it gets very hard to separate a dozen or more great swimmers of different specialties and from different eras for the remaining five places on the list. (For what it’s worth, among the other Aussies contending for the list I would rate Gould ahead of Thorpe).
ReplyDeletethank u
DeleteTamas Darnyi should be on that list too.
ReplyDeleteswimmming is fun and it has money it is very fan
ReplyDeleteWhere is Michael Gross?
ReplyDeletehULK hOGAN?
ReplyDeleteMicheal Phelps is the greatest swimmer if all time!!!
ReplyDeletePhelps all the way
ReplyDeleteWhere is aaron peirsol on that list he won eery backstroke event from 2000 from 2009
ReplyDeleteRYAN LOCTE FTW
ReplyDeletewhen you say swimmers... there are many of them who dominate their own fields..so by logic you cant really say who is the top then because if so, people like ian thorpe would be completely lost in a 200m breastroke to brendan hansen or micheal phelps to matt grever in a 100m backstroke and mark spitz would lose out to nathan adrian/ yannick agnel in freestyle or anybody coming close to Phelps in butterfly is clearly not happening ... so the list should be re-evaluated to the swimmer's signature events but if it's still about who won the most medals or world records.. then check statistics again cause since 2012.. only one person got the most in history and the most medals for 2012 games and i think he should be in the top ten( for swimmers)i mean for goodness sake its hard to beat 22 medals...isn't it?
ReplyDeleteim not sure but you should probably add Missy franklin to that list becausYe at 17 , she got four golds and one bronze. Also maybe Ye Shiwen cause she blew away world record, phelp's and lochte's personal bests, and the world as well so good for her! (at age 16 too)
ReplyDeletelet's not forget the greatest pre-Phelps IMer ever. Tamas Darnyi won himself 8 individual gold medals in both IMs over 2 Olympics and 2 worlds.
ReplyDeletehe was undefeated in both events until his retirement (1985-92 for the 200 IM and 85-93 in the 400 IM). other than phelps, i don't know anyone who amassed such winning streaks in multiple events. and he did it with 1 1/2 eyes (he lost a lot of vision when he got hit by a snowball)
Phelps has 22 olympic medals
DeleteAnyone know anyone willing to help a community with a grant for a pool?
ReplyDeletePenny Heyns!!!!
ReplyDeletePeople....
ReplyDeleteMichael Phelps is in the top 1 !!!!!
Why is he only 5th....
He holds 4 world records and has 22 olypic medals!!!!
Who else can beat that.....
GO Phelps !!!!!!!!
Michael phelps
ReplyDeleteswimming is best thing, i want to achieve something huge like this all !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIts very arguable that Phelps is the best ever...he also wore Nasa Speedo suit, and in my opinion he took gold from Milorad Cavic in Beijing 2008 for mili sec,and many think that Milorad won that race, there he steals that one,and broke Mark Spitz record...and maybe he is doping positive, who knows, american athletes do that very often, like Lance Armstrong for example,or Tyson Gay,Marion Jones...so for me he isn't best...most popular at the time was Thorpe, and for a reason,he swims like thorpedo... :)
ReplyDeletesome of u r really rude
ReplyDeleteMY FRIEND WILL BEAT YO ASS BITCHES SO STOP FUCKIN TALKIN ABOUT FUCK AMERICAN CAUSE SHE IS AN INSIDE OUT OREO AND SHE ONE TO GO OFF ON BITCHES LIKE YALL DUMB ASSES
ReplyDeletegrow up. this is for information of people who care. not for people who are act like 5 year olds. thank you a great post. Very informative.
