Top Ten Women Tennis Players

Tennis is one of the popular games in the world and this is one of the sports events in the world where both Men and Women section are equally popular. I found some of the present Women tennis stars of the world.

Amelie Mauresmo

Mauresmo is the current number one ranked player in the women’s tennis. Her powerful single handed backhand shot makes her different form other women players as it is hardly found among the women. She won two grand slams including Australian Open and Wimbledon in her career and both of those she got in 2006. She possesses power to play shots. She also became the world number one in 2004 for five weeks and became the first French women in the world to have become the world number one after launching the computer ranking in 1970. She started playing tennis when she was 4. She also got many successes in the junior levels. She first came in to the light after reaching final of the Australian Open in 1999 at her 19. In her career she ahs 23 career title. She earned $11,998,495 in her career.

Justine Henin-hardenne

Hardenne is the current number two in the world ranking. This Belgian won five grand slams in her career including Australian Open, French Open for three times consecutively and U.S. Open. She also became champion in five ITF tournaments in her early stage of tennis. She became the fifth WTA Tour winner who could win this tour at debut in 1999. She also became the number one ranked player and was awarded the International Tennis Federation’s Women’s Singles World Champions for 2003. In her career she won 28 titles. Her career earning is $12,019,473. In 2006 she was also appointed by UNESCO champion for sport.

Kim Clijsters

This Belgian is one of the famous players of this time. She is now the world number 3 in the WTA rankings. Clijsters is well-known for her groundstroke and defense power. Her only grand slam success was in 2005 in U.S. Open. She became runner-up in three grand slams tournaments. She ranked number one in 2003. Her grand slam titles do not go with his career title numbered 32. She was also became the number one in the doubles in 2003. In 2000 she became the WTA newcomer of the year. She has recently been declared as the WTA Player of the Year for 2005 and also WTA comeback player of the year for 2005. Her earning is $ 14,009,637 in his career.

Maria Sharapova

This Russian tennis talent is the world number 4 at this time. Sharapova won the Wimbledon in 2004 which is the only grand slam for this 19 year old glamorous girl. She has already won 12 career titles in her short span of career. She is also the highest paid female athlete in the world. Her career total prize money is $6,167,274. Not only is she a star for her tennis skills to her fans but she looks very beautiful too. She was the number one in the ranking in 2005. She became the WIA Player of the year in 2005.

Elena Dementieva

Dementieva is the world number 5 in the ranking of WTA at present. Though she could not win any grand slam yet, she played final of the two grand slams including French Open and U.S. Open. She started her professional career in 1998 and within two years she entered in the top 20. She won the silver medal in 2000 Olympic Games. This Russian talent could win 6 WTA and 3 ITF titles in her career. Her prize money is $7,265,515 in her career.

Nadia Petrova

This Russian tennis player is now in the 6th position in the WTA ranking. Though she has not got any success in the Grandslam tournament yet, she has already won 5 WTA and 4 IFT titles. This talented tennis player started playing professional tennis in 1999. Her highest ranking was no.3 which she achieved in this year. Nadia Petrova also got success in doubles too and her 11 WTA titles in Doubles proved it. Her parents were also prominent in sports in their own event. Her father Victor was a hammer thrower while her mother Nadejda was an athlete who won bronze medal in 400m relay in 1976 Montreal Olympic.

Svetlana Kuznetsova

This former US Open winner is now at the number 7 in the WTA ranking. Kuznetsova has won 6 titles in her career. She also reached in the final of the French Open in this year where she lost to Justine Henin Hardenne. Her career best rank was 4 in 2004. Her career income is $5,469,049. She also plays very well in Doubles. She along with Alicia Molik form Australia won the Australian Open’s women’s doubles events. This Russian talented player started her career in 2000. Her father, Alexandr Kuznetsov was a cycling coach and her mother, Nikolai Kuznetsov was a prominent cyclist who is former world champion and has many records in cycling.

Patty Schnyder

Schnyder is the Swiss tennis player who is now at number 8 position in the WTA ranking. She has not got any Grand Slam title yet but she won 10 singles title in her career and in 2005 she reached at the number 7 which is her career best. She defeated 3 top ten players in 1996 which is her debut year in Grand Slam. She reached in the semi-final of the Australian Open in 2004.

Martina Hingis

This former world number one is now at the 9th position of the WTA ranking. Martina Hingis has won five Grand Slam titles in her career. This Swiss made a lot of records as younger player in her career. After starting her professional career in 1994 she won all of the Grand Slams except French Open. She had declared his retirement form tennis in 2003 at the age of 22 after falling in a bad injury but in 2005 she returned to tennis. She had been world number one for 209 weeks. She won 40 singles and 36 doubles titles in her career. Her career earning is $19,290,490. She has been at the 22nd position in the list of 40 Greatest Players of the TENNIS era.

Nicole Vaidisova

Vaidisova is the world no 10 in the list of WTA ranking. This Greman tennis star player started her professional career and within this short career she could win 6 titles. She has not won any Grand Slam but she has reached in the semi-final of the French Open of this year. Her career earning is $ 1,046,121. Her strong side is her Serve.

    Perhaps the author had a greater appreciation (rightfully so) of players who gained their victories moreso through skill in their sustained ball-striking abilities (aka, possessing the ability to win points during rallies)... as opposed to those who emerge victorious primarily due to their being ball-bashing brutes.
