The Sports event Golf has a long history. Its glory and passion is not of a day or month. Golf has seen many of its greatest players with their great performance in the field. I found some of those most influential golfers who have added various dimensions to this game. Your opinions regarding this article are welcomed in the comment sections.

Patty Berg

Patricia Jane Berg is one of the pioneers of the foundation of Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and considered as one of the greatest golfers of all time. She was the first president of LPGA. During 1940-1960 she was the most dominant players in the golf world and most successful player of LPGA. For her unique contribution to the golf LPGA introduced Patty Berg Award in 1978. This die hearted golfer won 15 LPGA Major Championship in her career which is still a record for women’s golf. Her prestigious 60 LPGA tour win also talk in favor of her greatness. In her golden career she was named for many awards including Associated Women Athlete of the Year for thrice and Bob Jones Award which is the highest award of the United States Golf Association.

Mickey Wright

Mickey Wright has some lucrative records in her golf career. She is in the second position in terms of having highest LPGA major championship with hr 13 major championships and also in terms of having most LPGA tour wins with her 82 wins in LPGA tour. She dominated the golf world from the late 50’s to mid 70’s of the 20th century. In her career she achieved two career glad slams. This talented golfer was in the top of the LPGA money list for four consecutive years.

Annika Sorenstam

This Swedish golfer is going to be the greatest in the history of Golf. She is currently at the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Ranking. She is now the third highest LPGA Tour winner with her 69 tour championship including ten major championships. She holds many records in her own including the lowest ever scoring average in any season and also lowest score in a single round. She won VERA award for six times for her lowest average performance in the tournaments. She finished eight seasons on being the top of the LPGA money list. Her career prize money is highest than any other player of all time. Her current career money is $19,714,212. She is the first golfer to win $2 million in a year. She also won Rolex Player of the Year for record eight times. She is the first LPGA golfer who won a major tournament for three consecutive years. In 2003 this benevolent golfer was awarded for Patty Berg Award for her accomplishment to the Golf. She was also awarded as the ‘World Sportswoman of the Year’ at the Laureas World Sports Award in 2004 and the ESPY Award as the Best Female Athlete in 2005. Babe Zaharia

Mildred Ella "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias is an American multi-talented athlete who got success in various discipline of sports. She won two gold medals of which one was for 80 m Hurdles and another was for javelin throw in 1932 Los Angles Olympics. She was an prominent Basketball player, good diver, tennis player and also good at roller coaster as well as bowler. You may be thinking that why I turn this name in the Golfer’s list. Kathy Whitworth

Kathy is the highest winner of LPGA Tour with her 88 LPGA Tour titles which is still a record for both Men and Women. At the age of 19 she started playing professional golf. She was named as the LPGA Player of the Year for seven times. She is the first golfer who earned $1 million in the LPGA Tour. Later in 1975, she was included in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Jack Nicklaus

Jack William Nicklaus is considered as the greatest golfer ever seen in the Men’s Golf. He is the leading winner of the PGA major championship with his excellent 18 PGA major championships. He also got the distinction of the being greatest in the Champions tour which is known as the tournament of 50 or above aged people. He won 73 PGA Tour titles which made him the second in the list of the highest PGA winner. He is the only golfer in the history who has three career Grand Slams. In the senior golf competition, he also holds a record of winning any era’s Career Senior Grand Slam.

Tiger Woods

These days Woods have been an ambassador of golf with his ever growing influence in this game. He is the highest paid athlete in the world. Moreover, he has already been marked as one of the greatest golfers of all time and now he is in the way of being Greatest in the history of Golf. His 12 PGA major championships are much closest to the jack Nicklaus’s 18 victories. Woods has already won 53 PGA Tour titles. He is the second player in the history of golf who two Career Grand Slams. In his debut year in professional golf in 1996, he was also named the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ by Sports illustrated. He has been the number one golfer in the Official World Golf Rnkings for record 264 consecutive weeks. He became PGA Tour Player of the Year for eight times and finished five seasons being the top of the PGA money list. He has the highest ever career earnings in the history of the golf. He is now at 31 and he has a long way left to take his name on the zenith of golf.

Walter Hagen

Sir Walter Hagen is one of the pioneers of professional golf. This great golfer was the first professional club golfer in the history of golf. He is the third highest PGA major championship winners of all time with his 11 major championships. He also won 44 PGA Tour championships in his career. He tried to increase the earnings of the golfers to lead to the professional golf. He is also and inductee of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Sam Snead

Sam Snead is the highest number of PGA tour winner in the Men’s golf with his 82 PGA Tour championships. This great golfer has 7 PGA major championship victories. He was a dominant figure in the world golf from the mid 30’s to mid 60’s. Later, he also became an inductee of World Golf Hall of Fame. He was born in Virginia, United Stated in 1912. In his career he was very famous for his dress and folksy image.

Booby Jones

Booby Jones is the only player in the history of the golf who has Grand Slam. He won all of the four then major tournaments in 1930 and after such an achievement the idea of Grand Slam was first came in to light. He won 7 major tournaments and 9 PGA Tour championships. This great golfer won an armature tournament and reached t the third round in the U.S. Armature Championships known as one of the then major tournaments when he was 14. This great golfer has been an inductee in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
