Having seen the title you may think that it is a theme of an advertisement of a mobile phone company as a part of their business promotional program. If you do so then you will definitely be astonished hearing that you will be able to watch live of the 100 meter race of Olympic Games on your mobile phone screen.
Yes, Chine, the next Olympic organizer, has already taken the initiative to provide its mobile phone users the live TV programs through using Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology. I found some articles in different websites where I got some information regarding this news. I am quoting some lines from one of those websites below:
“The Xinhua report, quoting China's State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), said transmission of TV signals to mobiles would be tested in mid-2007 and the satellite system activated in the first half of 2008 so that the Olympic Games could be projected to millions of mobile users across the country”.
In this regard, China Mobile and China Unicom, two leading mobile operator companies, will sign agreement at the end of this month with phone maker companies in order to buy handsets which will allow subscribers to watch TV program. Under this agreement phone makers will embed a new chip technology so that users can watch TV program on their mobile phone screen.
China will also introduce its national terrestrial digital TV standard. Along with mobile phone, big screen PDAs and MP4 players will also be able to catch TV programs for the users.
Here, the biggest advantage of China for such a huge project is their increasing number of mobile phone user. I got some statistical information about their mobile phone user in a website and I am quoting some line form that site:
“China's mobile phone TV market is expected to reach 6.05 bln yuan in 2008 as China has more than 400 million mobile phone users and the number is increasing by 5 million a month, according to the Ministry of Information Technology”.
So, it is worthless to say think that if China will be succeed in this project. However, the cost of this service will be a factor to popularize the technology.
What do you think about this new technology?
