The match between Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin and got the favorite tag as it brought two former No. 1s, who jointly owned 10 major titles.

No doubt, Justine Henin was the most favorite player as she won four Grand Slam titles at the French Open. However, Maria Sharapova was not less favorite of this game.

Henin tied the match with 6-2 win in the first set and equaled the record of 40th consecutive set victory which was set by Helen Wills Moody from 1926-32.

Maria Sharapova Powered into the Semi Final of Australian Open 2008

Maria Sharapova stormed into the semi final of Australian Open 2008 after projecting a straight-sets victory in the quarter final against top seed Justine Henin. The Russian star, faced strong challenge from Henin in the first set, but the second set was all about Maria Sharapova. Justine Henin could not show any resistance in the second set, suffering the third defeat to Sharapova. With the 6-4, 6-0 victory, Maria Sharapova has taken the revenge of her defeat to Justine Henin in the WTA Championship Final in Madrid last year.

Maria Sharapova, the fifth seed, started off well winning the first three games in a row and got the break point in the second game of the first set. However, Justine Henin bounced back in the fourth game to make it 3-1. Henin put on a strong resistance from the sixth game of the first set to win three successive games to make it 4-5. However, Henin found it useless when Maria Sharapova wrapped up the first set in the next game 6-4.

In the second set, Justine Henin saw an unstoppable Maria Sharapova, who started it in the similar fashion breaking Justine Henin twice and reeled off the bagel in sheer dominance. Sharapova dropped no game in the second set. After experiencing an injury-pronged 2007, the tennis world has seen another Sharapova today at the Melbourne Park. Sharapova’s fiery performance was in evidence of her confidence and dominance.

Maria Sharapova will face third seed Jelena Jankovic in the semi final of the tournament. Jelena Jankovic defeated Serena Williams 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter final of Australian Open 2008. However, the dominance Sharapova showed against Justine Henin, it seems that Jelena Jankovic has to face some strong challenges from Maria Sharapova in the semi final of Australian Open 2008. Maria Sharapova was the finalist of Australian Open last year where she lost to eventual champion Serena Williams. Now, let us see if Maria Sharapova can go a step further this time around.

Justine Henin vs Maria Sharapova: Live Score and Live Updates

http://techblogbiz.blogspot.com/2008/01/justine-henin-vs-maria-sharapova-live.html

If you ask anyone to make a list of most excited matches of tennis of present time then Henin vs Sharapova match will definitely be in the top of the list. With another Henin vs Sharapova match is approaching, the whole tennis world is now eagerly waiting for it. Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova are going to meet in another much awaiting clash in the quarter final of Australian Open.

Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova both are favorites to win the title of Australian Open 2008. What is more, both Sharapova and Henin are in their prime form at this moment. Neither Henin nor Sharapova dropped any set yet in the tournament so far. This is enough to realize how much dominance they maintained over their opponents in the previous rounds of Australian Open 2008.

If you go back to record book, you can see that out of eight previous meetings, Henin won eight matches, while Sharapova won two matches including the U.S. Open final 2006. The last time they met each other was in WTA Tour Championship final in Madrid where Henin defeated Sharapova in a three set exciting match.

Actually, it is really very tough to predict about the result of a high profile match. Both Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova are pretty confident with their own game and fight till the end of the match. Both of them are very tough to be broken down and possess sheer talent. Moreover, another characteristic of Henin and Sharapova is mental strength. Henin, for example, went though some tough time early in the last year following the breaking up of her marriage, which even forced her to withdrew from Australian Open. However, she came back in the court with the same imperious form and won the French Open 2007 title.

Maria Sharapova, on the other hand, experienced a tough season with recurring shoulder injury leading her to poor form last year. However, the Russian bounced back and has been in an impressive form so far in the tournament.

I think, both of them have similar chance to win the match. Though I think, Justine Henin is more correct in her technical skill, Maria Sharapova has her strong serves to outperform Henin. Henin has more experience than Sharapova. However, I think, it would not be a problem for Sharapova as she is also playing at this level last few years.

This is a high profile match. So, I think, the player will be bale to hold her poise and stick to her own game, will have better chance to win the match. I can easily say that Justine Hein will win the match, or Maria Sharapova will reach the semi final. However, that would not be something meaningful, because I think, making this kind of prediction is nothing more than playing gambling, as both of them have similar chance in the match and both of them are in their prime form. So, let us hope to see an exciting match in the quarter final.

Justine Henin vs Maria Sharapova: Live Score and Live Updates

http://techblogbiz.blogspot.com/2008/01/justine-henin-vs-maria-sharapova-live.html

Justine Hein and Maria Sharapova are going to face each other in another mouth watering clash in the quarterfinal of Australian Open 2008. Both the stars have eased past their opponents in the previous rounds of the tournament and neither of them lost any set so far in Australian Open 2008 so far. Henin vs Sharapova clash is now the center of all attention in women’s singles of Australian Open 2008.

Justine Henin projected a straight sets victory over Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan 6-2, 6-2, setting up her quarter final showdown with Maria Sharapova. With this victory, Justine Henin has taken her winning streak to 32. In the same way, Sharapova also managed her fourth round victory with similar ease and confirmed her meeting with Henin for the ninth time. Sharapova roared past 11th seed Elena Dementieva 6-2, 6-0 in the fourth round match which lasted only an hour and 2 minutes.

Tennis fans experienced eight Henin vs Sharapova matches in the past. Though Sharapova has been in an impressive form so far, record book favors Henin. The Belgium won six out of eight matches against Sharapova, the last one being the WTA Tour Championship final in Madrid last year, which Henin won in three sets. Henin has stated that victory as one of the best in her career and one of the best matches of last year. Regarding her upcoming match against Sharapova, the world no. 1 has been full of praise for the Russian.

The Press Association reported:

"I always know to beat her I have to be at my best. She's a real fighter. She never gives up. Very talented. She's a champion. So I know that against her I will have to give 100% all the time."

"Now is when it gets serious. And that's what I'm here for. So I'm very excited about tough matches coming up and I hope it's going to be a great week of tennis," added the Belgian.

Maria Sharapova, on the other hand, had an unimpressive season last year with no grand slam success. She struggled with injury which forced her to adopt an easier action of serving last year. Sharapova even admitted that injury kept her under perform a big part of the year. So, she was dropped to no. 5 in the year end ranking.

However, the Russian star has been in an impressive form. In fact, she has been improving with every round and did not face any problem so far in Australian Open 2008, despite the fact that she was in a tough area of the draw. Now, ahead of the match against Justine Henin, the Russian has also been full of praise regarding her opponent.

AFP reported:

"I was seeing the ball well today," Sharapova said, acknowledging she was likely to have a tougher time against Henin.

"She's just very steady and very consistent and she do whatever it takes to win the point," she said.

"No matter how long the point is, no matter how many times you run her side to side, she's willing to be out there challenge you to make the errors."

Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova both have similar feeling regarding Australian Open. Henin had to retire during the final of 2006 Australian Open with physical illness, which led to public dissatisfaction as there were many fans who though she could have continued in the final. In 2007, she withdrew from Australian Open following her personal problems related to the break up of her marriage. So, winning another Australian Open title has become a common expectation among her fans.

Maria Sharapova has not won Australian Open. Last year, she cruised to the final of Australian Open, where she unexpectedly lost to Serena Williams. So, she also has something to prove this time around. Maria Sharapova started the tournament with sheer confidence and is expected to be one of the contenders of the title.

Now, ahead of the Justine Henin vs Maria Sharapova clash, fans are excited to see another competitive match between the two. Whenever the two take on each other, it attracts the tennis fans. I do not go for any prediction as you know this is a match where statistics, records can be taken into account. It is like a match where one needs to play her best and get a bit of help of luck.

Justine Henin to Face Maria Sharapova in The Quarter Final of Australian Open 2008

Justine Henin continued her impressive run with another straight sets victory in Australian Open 2008. Hein defeated Su-Wei Hseih from Taiwan 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round and thus Henin set up a mouth-watering clash with Maria Sharapova in the quarter final. Actually, Justine Henin has been in an imperious form so far in the tournament.

Henin did not face any strong challenge from her fourth round opponent as she defeated the Taiwanese easily. Though Henin faced some challenges in the early in the first set, there was not any doubt about the result of the match.

Setanta Sports reported:

Henin has yet to drop a set in Melbourne but she was given an early scare as Su-Wei broke early on. However, the Belgian did not panic and broke back immediately before grabbing another break in the fifth game to move 3-2 in front.

Both Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin have not lost any set so far in the tournament. This is enough to realize their form and confident. However, ahead of the blockbuster clash, Justine Henin has the favor of record book as it says that, Henin won six out of her eight meetings against Maria Sharapova. However, it does not mean that the Belgian will do the same thing once again without facing any challenge.

Justine Hein vs Maria Sharapova is perhaps going to be the first math between two top five players in Australian Open 2008. It is really very tough to predict anything beforehand, when it comes to such a high profile match. Moreover, both of them are in imperious form ahead of the match. What I guess is that tennis world is going to experience a memorable match on Tuesday.

Justine Henin in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Justine Henin is perhaps the most favorite for winning the women’s singles title of Australian Open 2008. The Belgium has spent another superb year in 2007 winning two of thee grand slam tournament she took part last year. The only grand slam she did not take part was Australian Open 2007. She withdrew her participation because of personal problems related to breaking up her marriage.

So, the women’s world no. 1 is eager to take part another Australian Open tennis tournament. Henin started the New Year winning her 40th WTA title defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final of Sydney International. So, it is obvious that the Belgium still carries her great form of last year. Henin won seven grand slam tournaments in her career including 2004 Australian Open title. Justine Henin won French Open and U.S. Open titles last year whereas she could not reach the final of Wimbledon.

Justine Henin should not have any problem to reach the fourth round of Australian Open 2008. In her fourth round encounter, she may face 13th seed Tatiana Golovin. In the quarter final, her probable opponent would be Maria Sharapova. Serena Williams could be her semi final opponent in Australian Open 2008 tournament.

US Open 2007: Justine Henin Reaches at the Final

World no. 1 Justine Henin has reached at the final of women’s singles of US Open 2007. This Belgian star has defeated another favorite Venus Williams in two sets. Justine Henin was excellent in the match. Henin won the match by 7(7)-6, 6-4. Actually, Justine Henin hardly gave any chance to the home girl Venus. Though it was expected that the match would be competitive, Venus Williams could not show that much resistant against Justine Henin.

Earlier in the quarter final of US Open 2007, Justine Henin defeated Serena Williams. So, both the home girls have been eliminated from the tournament being defeated by Justine Henin. So, the Americans may not be so happy with Justine Henin. Now, let us see in the final if Justine Henin gets the supports of American fans. Justine Henin will face Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Justine Henin Vs Svetlana Kuznetsova Preview: US Open 2007

Justine Henin and Svetlana Kuznetsova will meet in the final of Women’s singles of US Open 2007. World no. 1 Justine Henin defeated Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in the semi final and ensured the final of US Open 2007. Russian star Svetlana Kuznetsova has huge potential to confront against Henin. However, it is true that Justine Henin is favorite for the match.

Justine Henin and Some Facts

Justine is now in her way to become another legend of Women’s tennis. Henin has already won six grand slam titles in her career. Except the Wimbledon title, Henin won all other grand slam tournament in her career. So, she is now definitely determined to win the seventh grand slam title in her career. In the semi final this Belgian tennis star defeated another star Venus Williams in two direct sets. Henin faced strong challenge in the first set as she had to win through tiebreaker. Henin won the first set by 7(7)- 6(2). However, Venus Williams could not live up to the expectation in the second set as Henin win the second set by 6-4.

Justine Henin came to the tennis world during the tenure of Williams sisters. That was the time of power tennis. Both Serena and Venus were in their prime form and hardly any opponent could stop them. For a girl with 5 ft 5+1⁄2 in height, it was really unbelievable to dominate the world at that time and compete with Venus and Serena Williams. However, Justine Henin could make it possible and curtain the dominance of Williams sisters.

Justine Henin was born in June 1, 1982 in Belgium. Her father José Henin and mother Françoise Rosière, both was teacher by profession. Justine Henin started playing at a local tennis club near their house in Rochefort. Henin started playing tennis at the age of six. In her childhood, she along with her mother went to France to see French Open several times. Having seen her idol Steffi Graf loosing against Monica Seles in the final of 1992 French Open, she told her mother that she would play there one day and would win. To tell the truth, that little girl has already won French Open titles four times in which last three were in a row. Justine Henin was ambitious from her childhood which guided her to become the world no. 1 in the tennis world. Carlos Rodriguez is her long time coach in her career to whom she has been training since 1995.

The main advantage of Justine Henin is that she can play in all courts with equal success. Earlier, I mentioned that she came into the period of power tennis. Actually, Henin is also a follower of power tennis despite his tiny physique. Justine Henin has a combination of both power and skill. Henin is most famous for her Power services are one of her main weapons. Her single handed backhands and slice backhands are something special that you can not expect so perfectly from any other player in Women’s tennis at this moment. Moreover, her movement and balance have made her more successful in her career.

Justine Henin came to play profession tennis at the age of 16 in 1999. In her first WTA tournament, Belgian Open, Henin won the title to become the fifth player to win WTA title in his debut tournament. She first came to lime light in 2001 as she reached at the semi final of French Open and final of Wimbledon. Justine Henin finished the year at seven in the WTA ranking. The year 2003 was the breakthrough year for Justine Henin as she won her first grand slam title in French Open 2003. Henin also won US Open title in the same year. From then on, winning grand slam has become a habit for Justine Henin.

Justine Henin started the year with a bad incident which made him to miss the Australian Open 2007. Justine Henin got divorced during the time and went though a hard time. However, Justine Henin did not look back and came back with the French Open and won the title for three consecutive years. In Wimbledon, Henin failed again as she lost at semi final.

Justine Henin has nothing to prove in the tennis world. I think, she has the potential to win the US Open 2007 title and if she is in her prime form then it would not be a problem for her to win the seventh grand slam title in her career. So, what she needs is to play her natural game in the final.

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Some Facts

Svetlana Kuznetsova will play her second US Open file in this tournament. This fourth seed Russian has defeated another Russian, sixth seed Anna Chakvetadze in the first semi final of women’s singles of US Open 2007. Kuznetsova won her first and only grand slam title in US Open 2007. As a teenager of 19, it was something unexpected that she would win the US Open title leaving behind the then stars like Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementieva etc.

Now, after three years, Svetlana Kuznetsova is more matured and has proved her ability in world tennis during this time several times. However, Kuznetsova failed to live up to the expectation of her fans in the grand slam tournament. Except reaching in the French Open final in 2006, she could not show any other impressive performances in grand slam tournaments in the last three years. However, Kuznetsova continued her successes in WTA tournaments. Svetlana Kuznetsova has already won 9 WTA titles.

Born in Leningrad, Russia, Svetlana Kuznetsova learned tennis in Spain. She came to Spain at 13 in order to get higher training in tennis. Svetlana Kuznetsova came from a sports family. Her father was a cycling coach and coach five Olympic and World cycling champions. Moreover, her mother, Galina Tsareva is a six time world champion and she made 20 world records in her career. Last but not least, her brother Nikolai Kuznetsov won a silver medal cycling in 1966 Summer Olympics. Actually, Svetlana Kuznetsova was also in the queue to join cycling but she did not find interest in cycling.

Now, not doubt, Svetlana Kuznetsova is a world star. Kuznetsova joined professional tennis in 2000 at the age of 15. So, you can see how much talent this Russian teenager had that led her to join professional when she was just 15 and that was the start of this tennis star. She won her first career title at the age of 16 in Cagliari, Italy in 2001. Kuznetsova won her first WTA title in Helsinki in 2002 which was followed by her second WTA title in the same year at Bali.

From then on, Svetlana Kuznetsova never looked back. Gradually she was coming into line light. The brake through year was in 2004 when Kuznetsova won her first Grand Slam title in US Open 2004. With that title, Kuznetsova rose to stardom overnight. Her ranking was increasing rapidly and she started getting focuses international media. The year 2007 was also good for her. Just before the US Open 2007, Svetlana Kuznetsova won the Pilot Len Tennis at New Havana defeating Hungarian Agnes Szavay in the final. Interestingly, Agnes Szavay was also the quarter final opponent of Svetlana Kuznetsova in US Open 2007. Kuznetsova reached at the final of three other WTA tournaments this year.

The best shot of Svetlana Kuznetsova is undoubtedly her powerful forehand. She likes to play from the baseline and is very quick mover. So, she gets much time before hitting the ball and can observe the opponent players position easily. Svetlana Kuznetsova has huge talent and skill in her. Now, what she needs is to perform consistently and try to play her natural game.

At the end, I would like to say that the final match of women’s singles of US Open 2007 can be a classic final. Both Justine Henin and Svetlana Kuznetsovaa are in their prime form. So, both the players are full of confident and determined to win the title. It is very hard to predict regarding the result of the match because it is a big match were both the players have got some promising wins that strengthen their confidence. I just hope to see a competitive match.

To tell the truth, both Justine Henin and Serena Williams like to play dominating over the opponent. So, it will be nice to see who will dominate over whom in the quarter final match.

US Open 2007: Justine Henin Reaches at the Fourth Round

Justine Henin is going towards her seventh grand slam title with sheer confidence. Henin has reached at the fourth round of US Open 2007. In her third round match, Justine Henin defeated Russian Ekaterina Makarova in two direct sets. The score line 6-0, 6-2 of the match shows how much dominance Henin had in the match. The Belgian will face in form Russian Dinara Safina in her fourth round match.

At the beginning of the year, Justine Henin went though some hard time as he got divorced with her husband. So, she missed the Australian Open 2007. However, Henin won her sixth grand slam title in French Open 2007. In Wimbledon, she suffered a shocked defeat to Marion Bartoli in semi final.

I think, Justine Henin is confident enough to win US Open 2007. At this moment, I think, she has better chance to win the title of US Open 2007. It is true that there are some other players who are playing well and have chance to win US Open 2007 title. However, the way, Justine Henin is going ahead is really something special for any player.

US Open 2007: Justine Henin and Venus Williams Progress to the Third Round

US Open 2007 has already been started. This is the last grand slam of the year. Till now, all the favorites of the tournament have progressed to the second without causing any upset. Wimbledon 2007 winner Venus Williams defeated Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru in two direct sets. However, to tell the truth she was not so impressive in the match though Venus could easily enter into the third round of US Open 2007. Venus made a grand slam record of speedy serve in her first round match. She served 129 mph in the first match and now it is the speediest serve of women’s tennis in grand slam.

World no. 1 Justine Henin could also enter into the third round defeating Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova by 6-4, 6-0. This Belgian tennis star is now looking at his seventh Grand Slam title. However, world no. 9 lost being the only top 10 star to go out of the tournament.

ABC News reported:
So far, No. 9 Daniela Hantuchova was the lone top-10 player to lose. In all, it was an early breeze for those at the top.
A night earlier, Maria Sharapova was positively giddy.
About her sparkling red dress. Her bejeweled handbag. Her picture in the hallway leading to center court. About everything at the U.S. Open, really.

Maria Sharapova has earlier come up with his new red dress in the court and still now, she is in right track to defend the title. US Open 2007 is till open and I think Maria Sharapova has a greater chance to reach at the final. Now, let’s see what is going to happen in the next few days.

Ana Ivanovic loses to Yan Zi in the Rogers Cup

So far, Rogers Cup has been very good for Justine Henin and Yan Zi but not for Ana Ivanovic, the defending Rogers Cup Champion. The world’s fourth ranked female player lost to Yan Zi of China. Ivanovic did not have any control over her game. The Star.com reports:

Fleeting as it was, dispatched 6-3, 6-1 by China's Zi Yan, an accomplished doubles player – Wimbledon and Australian Open champion – but nevertheless firmly stalled in the nether regions of singles ranking.

Sorry, too, was the clearly Ana-gaga audience and, likely more so, the organizers of this withdrawal-plagued tournament, which yesterday lost fifth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze to flu and eighth-seeded Elena Dementieva to the superior (also profanity gifted) effort of Francesca Schiavone.

Ivanovic, the 19-year-old Serb and current resident of Switzerland – where many tennis pros roost – was thoroughly discombobulated and demolished by Yan's speed, the rat-a-tat of two-fisted groundstroke slices, low lasers that found the corners.

Though Ivanovic is a good player, she has not been very good at adopting her techniques along with the situation which has been successfully done by players like Justine Henin.

Yan Zi goes to the semifnal of Rogers Cup

Chinese Tennis star, Yan Zi, moved to the semifinals of the Rogers cup.Currently, she is 169th position in WTA ranking. She will face Justine Henin in the semifinals. The Star.com reports:

The last time a qualifier made it to the semifinals in this tournament was 1996, when Kimberly Po of the United States defeated Mary Joe Fernandez 6-2, 6-3 in a quarter-final match.

Yan will be on centre court in the semifinals to face Justine Henin, the top seed and the world No.1.

Henin will be the overwhelming favorite after having disposed of Russian Nadia Petrova, the sixth seed, 7-6, 6-3 in cold, blustery conditions Friday night. Henin found herself down 0-3 and 3-5 in the first set, but rallied with some smart shots.

“I just tried to keep fighting,” said Henin.

Henin moved into the semifinals beating Russia’s Nadia Petrova. The day was not meant for Petrova. She lost control in the second set. The two met thirteen times on the court. Including this one Henin beat Petrova eleven times.

Yan is the first qualifier to reach the semifinals in the last 11 years. In 1996, it was Kimberly Po from USA, who made it to the semifinals beating Mary Joe Fernandez.

Justine Henin in Wimbledon Tennis Championship 2007

Justine Henin is passing happy moments these days after winning French Open 2007 for the third consecutive time. This was a great achievement for her. Now, the time of Wimbledon 2007 is coming and Justine Henin has a very important reason to eagerly wait for Wimbledon. Until now, Henin has never won Wimbledon title and this is the only grand slam tournament that she could not win until now.

So, Justine Henin is now thinking seriously about winning Wimbledon this year. She is in great form now and she has all the potential to win Wimbledon this time. The last 2 years have not been very great for Henin in the personal front. 2007 looks to be more promising.

Kate Battersby wrote in the official website of Wimbledon 2007:

Having turned 25 at the start of this month, Henin views Wimbledon with new intrigue. Can she make it her seventh Grand Slam title, the only one she has not captured? Last year she lost a fascinating final to Amelie Mauresmo, but she now seems re-armed and renewed. Of course her toughness has never been in doubt. It all makes the thought of possible battles on grass against Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams an even more thrilling prospect.

“Wimbledon remains a very important goal for me,” said Henin. “It wouldn’t be the end for me in a tennis sense if I never won it, but it would be a great achievement in my career. It was the first Slam where I reached a final, so that’s special to me. The grounds at Wimbledon are so beautiful – the most beautiful site out of all the Grand Slams, I think. It’s all about the traditions of the place. I really like it. All the players love to come to Wimbledon. They are more relaxed there than at other Slams. That makes it special.

I don’t know why some great players cannot win certain tournaments. Ivan Lendel could not win Wimbledon in his career. Roger Federer has the same fate about French Open 2007. Now, Justine Henin has found it impossible to lift the title of Wimbledon. May be Wimbledon 2007, will be a different ball game for Henin.
