Dinara Safina Reached Semi Final at French Open 2009

Russian world no. 1 Dinara Safina defeated 9th seed Victoria Azarenka coming back from 1 set down and reached semi final of French Open 2009. The Russian star is now just two matches away from her first ever Grand slam title. 23-year-old, Safina, was the losing finalist of French Open last year and then made another final at Australian Open 2009.

Victoria Azarenka came into the match with the memory of a comfortable fourth round victory over defending champion Ana Ivanovic fresh in mind. The Belarusian won the first set pretty easily 6-1, but Safina bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. No doubt, the Russian is now gearing up to win her first ever grand slam title at Roland Garros. Dinara Safina will face Serbian Dominika Cibulkova in the semi final.

Dinara Safina in Second Round of French Open Tennis 2009

In the end, it was a very one sided match. In fact, it took only 61 minutes for Dinara Safina to win the match. She defeated Anne Keothavong of England by 6-0, 6-0. I already said that it just took one hour and more than everything it was totally a one sided match. It shows that Dinara Safina is very serious in French Open 2009 and she is planning to win the tournament. Of course, you know that she is now the number one ranked player in the world and as a same some controversy came when one of the Williams sisters said that Dinara Safina may be number one but she has not won any Grand Slam event until now. So, if she wins the event then she should visit Maldives to celebrate.

This matter caused some debate and some people think that it is true because Dinara Safina has not won any Grand Slam until now and you know that in tennis Grand Slam is the most prestigious thing and this is a very important time for this Russian 22-year-old girl. She has to show that she can win tournament and French Open can be the start for a good career for her.

French Open 2009: Ana Ivanovic in Second Round

Ana Ivanovic is the defending champion of French Open. This time, she is not in good form and physical and mental condition. She has been fighting against injury for quite some time and it was clear today that it will be a tough event for her. She could win her first round match and advance to second round but it took quite a long time and effort to do so.

The Guardian reported:

Ivanovic, who dominated at Roland Garros 12 months ago, struggled to a 7-6 6-3 victory over Sara Errani, who has never won a match at the French Open.

The 21-year-old Serbian stepped on court with her troublesome right knee strapped up in black tape and was pushed from corner to corner by Errani in a 22-shot rally within the opening seconds of the match.

Sara Errani is from Italy and hardly any knows her. Hopefully, Ana will do better in the second round.

Maria Sharapova in French Open Tennis 2009

Maria Sharapova dominated world tennis in 2006. However, the last one year has not been up to the mark for her because she has suffered a lot from injury. So, many people may think that it will be difficult for her to make a come back. However, you should remember that she is only 22 years old and she has still some good tennis to give to all the fans. In fact, the good thing that has happened is that she got tenth month rest and this way she is now more fresh. Her ranking went down to 126 and now she has to make a come back and get the top spot again. It should be remembered by all the people Maria Sharapova won the Wimbledon’s title in 2004 only at the age of 17 even by the age of twenty, she made a lot of winning titles in Grand Slams and other forms of tennis. Even in 2008, she won the title of Australian open. I still remember when she won the championship of US Open 2006. We covered that news in this blog. So, let us see if Maria Sharapova can make a come back in French Open 2009. It will be tough but she can do it.
