Rumor is out that Apple will be launching an upgraded version of its MobileMe service in April. The new service will be free. It would act like a digital storage for customers where they can store their music, movies and other items purchased from iTunes.
The new MobileMe service will be completely free unlike its current version which requires users to pay a yearly subscription of $99.
It has been reported that Apple currently testing the service with a university where it offered students a 60-day trial version of the new service.
On February 24, 2011, Apple removed the current MobileMe product from its online stores and notified resellers about the discontinuation.
Apple will support the existing subscribers till next year for they have already paid for a full year’s service.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Apple will offer a smaller and cheaper phone that will come with MobileMe service.
This new development coincides with the speculation of PC Mag.com’s Tim Bajarin who claimed that cloud-based services will be the next major trend of Apple and it would release products related to its cloud-based service.
