While it is not a great time to bring out notebooks or netbooks, we can see that several companies are going to bring out Chrome-OS based netbooks in the next few months. 2011 will be the testing time for Chrome OS from Google. It is a very difficult time because on the one hand, tablet devices are gaining momentum. On the other hand, Android is becoming popular in smartphones. Chrom OS has failed to attract any imagination because we have not exactly seen it yet. Yes, some people are using it in the Google netbooks but for most people it is just an imagination.
I think that Google should make an offline version of Chrome OS for one reason. Right now, Chrome OS is cloud-based and if you do not have a high-speed Internet connection it is useless. So, most people living in third world countries will not have any use for a Chrome run netbook despite the fact that price will be inexpensive. For example, I can easily afford to have a Chrome-OS run netbook but in my country Internet speed is terrible and I can not do anything with the device.
Millions of people like me will have the same problem. On the other hand, if Google releases an offline-version of its Chrome OS then we can perhaps use it in our netbooks. Of course, it is not an easy task because Google will have to invest a lot of money to make a heavyweight version of the Chrome OS and it will have to take on Microsoft Windows 7 which is currently the most popular OS.
So, while I think that Google should make an offline version of Chrome OS. I do not think that it will be coming anytime soon.
