Fernando Gonzalez Moved into Second Round of Australian Open 2008

With a smashing victory over Konstantinos Economidis, seventh seed Fernando Gonzalez got an ominous start in Australian Open 2008. The Chilean cruised in to the second round defeating his Greek opponent 6-4 7-6 (7/2) 6-1. Except the second set, it was very difficult for Konstantinos Economidis to show enough resistance against Gonzalez. He was in his great form and indicated the same form he was showing last year at the Melbourne Park.

Sporting Life reported:

Gonzalez's entertaining, go-for-broke game was once again in evidence - he blasted 47 winners in less than two hours on court.

He faced only one break point - which he saved - as he cruised to a comfortable victory.

Gonzalez was the beaten finalist of Australian Open 2007. He was in his impressive form last year with consistent performance throughout the year. Now, Fernando Gonzalez has to face Hyung Taik-Lee of South Korea in the second round. He looked very impressive in the first round match and if he can continue his imperious form then it is possible have a good result this time around. However, his possible quarter final opponent could be world no. 1 Roger Federer. So, you can expect an interesting match in the quarter final.
